An arrow through the heart

Oliver had asked Barry, or the Flash rather, to come and surprise William on his first birthday party since Oliver learned he had a son. William of course didn't know the Star City Mayor was his father yet so it was just a very happy surprise from the man who knew his mom and the Flash.
Once all the kids had left the Clayton house William asked his favorite superhero to stay and tell him stories until he fell asleep.

That's how Oliver found himself standing in the doorway to his son's bedroom while Samantha was finishing cleaning up after the birthday party and Barry was sitting on William's bedside in his Flash suit reading the story about some runaway dinosaur. Apparently William also owned the book that had been Barry's favorite as a kid. The speedster slowly slipped his fingers through the young boys hair while he read the story until William fell asleep. Oliver thought his heart was gonna burst at any moment when he looked at the sight in front of him. It felt like an arrow had gone through his heart. Barry and William looked like the family that he could never have. He knew he shouldn't have these thoughts and feelings since his fiancé was injured back home knowing nothing about this. Felicity thought Oliver was just helping Barry deal with some meta as always and she didn't need to be there because of her back injury. But deep down Oliver just wanted to be with his son and Barry after he saw the way they had clicked today, just like he thought they'd might. And it had made him realize the extent of his feelings for Barry. He feared he was falling for the infuriating speedster.
With the thoughts spinning in his head Oliver slowly approached the red-leather-clad superhero and his sleeping son. "Thank you for what you did for him today." He whispered while he placed a hand on Barry's shoulder and the younger man looked up at him.
"Anytime." he replied and brought his hand up to Oliver's hand on his shoulder and took it into his own. He entangled their fingers very naturally as if it was nothing weird about holding hands with his handsome friend while he was sitting next to said friend's son on his bed. "I had a lot of fun today, maybe I should show up at kids parties more often." the speedster joked with a quiet voice to avoid waking the sleeping boy.
Oliver chuckled quietly at the joke and squeezed Barry's hand lightly because for some reason he didn't want to let it go since the other man didn't seem to mind. Maybe he was feeling the same way? Oliver thought as he felt a rush go through him.
"But only if the kids are as nice as your son." the speedster added with his soft quiet voice because, even if William was asleep he didn't know that Oliver was his father yet. Barry tossed another glance at the peacefully, sleeping birthday boy and those words sent another warm rush through Oliver's body when he followed the younger man's gaze and looked at his son with both warmth and the worry that he desperately wanted to keep the innocent boy away from his dangerous life. Both of them he thought as his gaze drifted back to Barry again.
"I had a feeling you two would get along because you're so similar." The words just poured out of the older man before he could think them through properly and a blush appeared on his face that hopefully wasn't visible since the only light was from the lit lamp on the nightstand next to his son's bed.
"Did you just compare me to your son?" Barry asked with a low voice despite the surprised look on his face with raised eyebrows as he tried to search Oliver's blue eyes and noticed the blushing on his face which caused his lips to twitch into a smile.
Meanwhile Oliver was searching for a good answer. "Not in a creepy way... but it's almost as if he could be your son and not mine." he lowered his voice even more because he felt embarrassed that he uttered these words out loud. But ever since he met his dorky son he couldn't help but think about how the boy was a lot like Barry. They were both into the same nerdy stuff.
A quiet nervous chuckle escaped Barry's throat when he glanced back at the young boy who wore a smile on his face even in his sleep after the best birthday present he'd ever gotten. To meet his favorite superhero in the flesh and race him and hear him telling so many stories.
"I don't think I messed up the timeline THAT much when I saved us all from that immortal maniac." Barry joked quietly which caused Oliver to chuckle quietly again while he was shaking his head to the comment and released Barry's hand from his own as the speedster got up from the bedside carefully not to wake Oliver's sleeping son. "But I did feel this instant connection with him... " he spoke quietly while he glanced from Oliver to his son and then back to his partner again. "But that's probably just because of you... because he's your kid and that makes him as important to me as you are." Barry's words hit something inside Oliver and he couldn't ignore the feelings that was bubbling up in him anymore so he took a step closer towards the other man.
"You are important to me too, Barry. Far more than you know." Oliver whispered while he placed a calloused hand under Barry's chin that was still covered by his red cowl. Because he couldn't ignore the urge to kiss the speedster anymore. He had been thinking about it several times during the birthday party whenever the younger superhero was grinning at him or just teasing him. Screw the consequences.
Barry noticed what was about to happen right before a pair of manly lips gently brushed against his own. He closed his eyes and sighed into the kiss as Oliver tenderly but passionately started to part Barry's lips further with his tongue. The speedster responded eagerly to Oliver's mouth and tongue despite the tickling scruff he felt against his own smooth skin which was an unusual but amazing feeling. A soft moan escaped his lips as they parted briefly, but their mouths instantly found each other again and with a newfound hunger Barry wrapped his arms around Oliver's muscular shoulders, but in the heat of the moment the excited younger man knocked over the lamp on the nightstand and it fell to the floor with a thud and he instantly pulled back from the kiss but not quick enough.
The noice had woken William up and he blinked in confusion before his eyes landed on the red silhouette who had his arms around Oliver's neck. They were lit up by the lamp that was now on the floor. Their faces were just a few inches from each other and a grin spread on the young boys face because even though he was young, he could tell that they had been kissing.
A heavy blush covered Oliver's face. The first time he kissed Barry Allen they had to be caught by his own son who thankfully was unaware of the fact that it was his own father who just had made out with the Flash and still had his arms around him.
"Who likes the Flash now?" William asked teasingly with a big grin on his face that made Oliver want to disappear through the floor. He was so screwed and not in the fun way. "Is that why you said he's one of the best guys you know? Cause he gives you kisses." The blush on Oliver's face only got worse because he was still standing too close to Barry who still had his arms around his neck and he could assume that the Scarlet Speedster was grinning with pride too even though he was avoiding looking at his face.
"Go back to sleep." Oliver ordered in a way too fatherly manner to William while Barry chuckled as the archer just left the bedroom and a blur then rushed past him out of the house. Before he left the house too Oliver simply nodded in Samantha's direction while he opened the front door because he was still so embarrassed after that kiss with Barry that he couldn't look at her face, since their son had just witnessed him making out with the Flash. I'm really glad she thinks no one knows William is my son.
Barry was still laughing when Oliver joined him outside the house on the porch. "Wow, thanks to you your son will probably gossip about this at school and then the word might get around until the whole city thinks that the Flash has a thing for Oliver Queen..." the speedster said when he had gathered his laughter but Oliver just blushed and couldn't even look at the man he just kissed. What was I thinking? I'm engaged for crying out loud.
"...But I guess there are worse things?" Barry added with a soft smile in his crush's direction and the archer managed to look at the speedster again. "But do you really think that I'm one of the best guys you know?" he asked and his words caused Oliver's cheeks to flush as red as the Flash suit Barry was wearing.
"Yeah, Barry, I think I do." he murmured and reached for Barry's hand. "But we should probably go back to your place to talk?" he added and Barry agreed with a nod before he grabbed Oliver and ran them back to the West house.

And the two superheroes obviously did much more than talking that night 😏😉
Anyway I hope you liked the story. Because if you did I might continue this with a second part about how they resolve the kissing situation?
