This story takes place in late season 6 or the gap between s6-7 if you will... when Barry knows that Iris is in the mirrorverse and he's missing Ollie and his ghost appears to a broken Barry one night.
OBS! it's a sad story. 💔
Barry was struggling to fall asleep in his empty bed. Iris was still lost in the Mirrorverse, Eva had won and everything felt hopeless. He was losing more of his speed every day and there was nothing he could do about it. He wished he still had Ollie to talk too because he always knew what to say when he was feeling hopeless and lost, he always understood what he was going through, but he couldn't talk to him... because he's gone. The thought still pained him every day, but it was even worse lately since he didn't even have Iris by his side anymore.
Suddenly he found himself whispering out loud. "Ollie, I don't know if you can hear me if you're somewhere out there somewhere... but I really wish you were here right now... I miss you...like a lot. And I haven't felt this alone since I was a kid. Iris is stuck in a Mirrorverse and you're gone... I don't know what to do."
When he realized that he was talking to himself as if Oliver could hear him he thought he must be losing it. Even more so when he suddenly thought that he saw the archer himself appear in his room as a hallucination. Oliver seemed to be standing there in the room in front of the window as if he was actually there. In a stylish suit like the one he wore when they first met. Barry shut his eyes close very hard only to open them to find that Oliver's ghost wasn't gone. He was still there and he was smiling at him. And he looked alive and peacefully happy.
"Ollie..." Barry's voice was just a whisper and he got up from the bed and approached him by the window, the moonlight was shining in on the man in front of him. In a way it was capturing his blue eyes and handsome face that Barry had memorized ever since he met him all those years ago. "You can't be here... you're..." his words got stuck in his throat.
But Oliver finished the sentence for him in the way he often used to do before. "... dead?" he asked and Barry just nodded because he was too busy staring in disbelief at the man in front of him.
"How can I see you?" Barry whispered and he could feel the tears burning in his eyes while he reached out for Oliver's hand. He instantly pulled back because he was surprised to find that he could feel Oliver's skin as if he was actually here, and it wasn't cold like it was the last time he held it in his hand before the archer passed. "And how can I feel you...?" a sob nearly escaped his throat while he reached out to squeeze Oliver's hand again and tears kept streaming down his face. "I must be losing my mind..." the speedster murmured through the tears while squeezing the hand in his own even tighter.
"No, you're not losing your mind, Barry. I don't know how it's possible, but when I heard how hopeless you've become I had to see you." Oliver said and reached out to wipe a few tears away from Barry's cheek. "You are strong enough to get through all of this." he continued and Barry really wished he could be strong enough to stop crying. But he still couldn't believe that Oliver was standing right in front of him and that he could see him and feel him and talk to him.
"I don't know if I am... when we saved the universe, we killed the speed force so now I'm losing my speed." Barry said with a deep sigh and threw out with his arms.
A soft smile formed at the corner of Oliver's mouth. "You're more than just a speedster, Barry. You saved my life before you had any superpowers, remember?" he said and gave Barry a gentle smile. The speedster couldn't help but smile back fondly through the confusion and the pain in his heart over the fact that he couldn't save him the last time.
Then Oliver pulled his hand away from Barry's face and became more serious when he spoke. "I'm also here to warn you because I've been having the feeling that you're about to create your own speed force with the help of your old nemesis notes." he said and Barry sighed.
"This city needs the Flash, you told me yourself that I should keep going, and I can't do that if I'm powerless and useless..." he started getting angry and frustrated instead and the tears had almost dried at this point. "... and didn't you become some sort of powerful God? How could a God just die like that?... You left everyone... you left me..." every ounce of guilt for not being able to save him turned into anger and he couldn't stop everything he wanted to say from pouring out of him.
"That was the only way to save the universe... to save Kara... to save you." Oliver said and he looked a little hurt over the words Barry had just thrown at him. That didn't stop him from reaching out to catch another tear that rolled down Barry's cheek. Which made the speedster feel guilty again for blaming his dead friend. He knew Oliver had given up so much and it wasn't really about him. It was bigger than everything.
"I'm sorry, Ollie... I just miss you." Barry sighed and then he grabbed both of Oliver's hands to place them around his own neck. "Can't you just hold me for a little while since I can feel you again?" he whispered carefully and blushed because he couldn't believe he had just asked his friend that request. But to his surprise a smile crossed Oliver's face before he wrapped his arms around the man he died for and hugged him tight while he let out a sigh of relief that the other man was alive and safe.
Then Barry started crying again. He quietly sobbed into the crook of Oliver's neck while the archer held him tight in his embrace. "I miss you so much." the speedster mumbled through his tears, still in disbelief that he was actually able to feel the archers strong arms around him and hear his voice. The other man was warm and made him feel safe.
"I gave up my life for you because I believe in you and how good you are, I know you're capable of anything." Oliver said and eased the embrace slowly to look the speedster into his green eyes. They were filled with so much sadness and tears and the former archer just wished that he could take it all away.
Barry noticed that the ghost was still cupping his face in his hands and for a second the confused speedster wondered what it would be like to kiss him. He used to think about it occasionally (more like every single time they'd been alone together) when Oliver was alive, but it was always a crazy idea and he knew Oliver didn't see him that way. And then they both got the girls of their dreams, but Iris wasn't here now and Oliver wasn't really here, anyway. This must just be some sort of a crazy vision or dream. And Iris didn't have to know that her husband kissed a ghost while she was stuck in a mirror.
While the thoughts kept spinning in his head the speedster somehow leaned in and brushed his lips against Oliver's. I'm kissing a ghost, I have completely lost it and gone full blown crazy. The even crazier part was that the ghost kissed him back.
Oliver felt alive again with Barry's mouth on his, soft lips forced his own wide open and a hunger started to arise in the archer that he hadn't felt since way before he died. He hungrily slipped his tongue into the speedster's mouth while he pulled him closer towards his own body. Then with a gasp their lips parted.
"I'm sorry. I don't know what's happening. You're... not here and god, I'm married, and I certainly never thought I'd be making out with a ghost." Barry started rambling at a quick pace, but the man in front of him was just chuckling nervously.
Suddenly Barry felt a calm wash over him and just like that he felt peaceful again instead of tense. "What did you do to me?" the speedster asked and took a few steps backwards.
"I didn't do anything, Barry, you're controlling this dream." that word made Barry's eyes widen, but he couldn't say anything because Oliver's mouth was suddenly back on his again. All sense disappeared from the speedster's mind and he slipped his fingers into the short dirty blonde hair while he hungrily kissed the dead man back.
"I should've done this when I was alive." Oliver murmured against Barry's lips. The speedster chuckled.
"Yes, you definitely should've. I thought I was being pretty obvious when we first met, that this was... what I wanted." Barry continued while he slowly ran his fingertips over the pale cheek in front of him. Wait? Wasn't this cheek blushing just a second ago? But once again his thoughts were interrupted by the gentle but hungry mouth on his own.
While Oliver was eating out Barry's mouth the speedster guided them both down on his bed and their lips parted. "Ollie... can you just stay here until I've fallen asleep? I don't think I have been able to sleep for one single night since you died and then I found out that the Iris I've shared a bed with lately, wasn't really Iris..." he was thinking out loud but the ghost seemed to listen. He gently slipped his fingers though Barry's soft brown hair.
"Of course I'll stay, Barry. You know I'm always here for you." Green eyes looked into blue ones in confusion. Those words... he'd heard them before from the man in his bed. But he was too exhausted to think further and he drifted into sleep.
"I'm always here for you... even when you can't see me anymore, Barry. Just know that I'm always looking down on you. And I'm so proud of you and so are your parents." Oliver whispered quietly before he placed a tender kiss on the younger man's forehead. "I couldn't have made a better decision than dying for you. I love you, Barry." he added before he placed another kiss to the other man's lips this time before he disappeared into thin air.
When Barry woke up the next morning he reached out for the man next to him. "Ollie..." he mumbled tiredly only to find that there was no one there. "Oliver!" he sat straight up in his bed and looked around in panic. The other man was gone again. "No... no no.. please don't do this to me again." the speedster mumbled helplessly while he covered his face in his hands. Crying once again. "Ollie, please come back. I love you, you stupid ghost!" But his scream was in vain. It had probably just been a dream, what happened last night. Oliver was obviously never even here in the first place. I was only imagining him here, I have gone crazy the speedster thought.
/Oliver was watching the man he loved panicking and he wished that he could ensure the speedster that he wasn't crazy. No, Barry I really was there with you last night. Just like I will be forever, watching over you./
A breath of air swooshed in from the slightly opened window and sent a chill through Barry. He climbed out of bed to close it and then he entered the living room. Right next to Oliver's mask, that was still placed on the coffee table along with photographs of him and Iris, the speedster discovered a note next to the mask.
/Barry, you're not crazy. I really was there last night. And I really wish that I could've stayed, but I can't. I just had to see you one last time because I love you./
A tear rolled down Barry's face reading the note. "Thank you, Ollie." he whispered into thin air. "I will always remember you and love you." he added and hoped that the ghost was still lingering around somehow so he could hear him.
Sad sad story. Hope you enjoyed it anyway.
