Steve's POV
I know I said I wasn't spending enough time with my sister, but at least I knew I had a good reason for it. I was right on Wo Fat's tail, that bastard.
With a bit of intelligence, I had managed to make him do his first mistake in years. I had filtered information about Sang Ming, his old associated, saying he was in the ... prison. This prompted him to get in touch with a prisoner there, obviously of his trust, to try to take him down. Unfortunately, the assassin mistook him for another prisoner. Actually, for a police officer undercover so we questioned him. He was really scared at first. Apparently his boss is not someone easy to rat out, but eventually I convinced him it was best to have Wo Fat for an enemy than me. Now we just had the wait for the perfect opportunity to take him down, but there was nothing for a few days now.
What the hell did I have to do to get this guy out?
"Boss? It's from school" Kono interrupted my thoughts, and by the look on her face it sounded urgent. I thanked her briefly while I took the phone to speak with Jill's Principal.
"Yes Principal... something wrong?" I asked when I was immediately informed that I was to pick up Jill from school as soon as I could. The answer didn't please me much. "What?" I said while jumping from my seat to a stand up position. I knew everyone in the central could see my reaction trough the glass walls, and probably Danny thought it was hilarious.
Me on the other side was everything but amused.
With clear intentions of murdering my sister, I abandoned my team to hop on my car and drove as fast as I could (though not exactly allowed) until I reached my destination.
Once I entered those hallways, I didn't have to wait much to land my eyes on Jillian, sitting outside the Principal's office and holding a patch of ice against her lip. Likely, she'd need one for her butt once I was done with her. My look said it all, so I wasted no words with her and just got into the office to face the music as a parent.
Even when the Principal had filled me in with what my sister had done, he had failed to inform me she'd get suspended. I just couldn't control my shocked face followed by a deep defeated sigh. She had only been in school for a few months.
"I hope you understand the necessity of such a severe measure Commander" he said, almost feeling ashamed to report this to me. What he didn't know was that I was the one who was ashamed of my sister's behavior and of the mere thought of someone thinking I encouraged it.
"I understand and I agree completely. She'll spend the rest of the week thinking about her actions. I give you my promise she'll turn around" I spat my threat to my sister regardless of the fact that she couldn't hear it.
"Glad to hear so" he said and I took that as a dismiss sign.
As soon as I got up from my seat, I went through the next steps quickly in my head so I wouldn't lose it in front of the entire school. I shook the Principal's hand, I walked out of the room, I spoke to my sister just the right amount of words to get her going, we walked to the car, I got Jill on the back seat, I sat down behind the wheel and just then I allowed myself to take a breath. Hell I was angry.
"Steve I..." she started to mumble an apology but I was quick to cut her off.
"Not now" I spoke to her coldly while starting the engine to get us going. I better take the long way back home.
I know I liked to think of my sister as this adorable and innocent thing that often looked much younger than she actually was, but when I saw what she had done, when school told me what she had done... that image was just swiped from my mind immediately. Jillian had a lot of strength and that made me proud, but to think she had dared to give use to what Joe and I had busted our asses to teach her to defend herself to actually harm another person, it just broke my heart. And started the flame of my anger as well.
