Jill's POV

After Steve was gone, I couldn't help a little resentment to lodge inside my heart. I knew the world needed him, but hey I come first. I'm his little sister after all, am I not? The only reason I didn't kick up much of a fuss due to his departure (besides the spanking I had just gotten) was that he'd be reunited with Cath, even just for work. And then he'd be away from that new blonde girl in his squad. I know I shouldn't be manipulating who my brother should date, but I was sure Cath was way better than any other girl he might meet.

The weekend wasn't that bad after all. I was staying in my mom's hotel, with a beautiful pool and a view of the ocean right there. I never minded to spend some time with my mom, as long as she spoils me a little bit at least.

The best of it was she was on her own.

"I'm glad Noah didn't tag along" I commented with my eyes closed as I enjoyed the warmth of the sunlight bathing my slightly pale skin. It had been rather cloudy these days and my skin could already feel it.

I grumble came from my mom's mouth and I smirked on the inside already knowing what it was for. I knew this woman like the palm of my hand.

"Come on Jill. You know I divorced last month" she commented bitterly while taking off her sunglasses and setting them aside. I remained stoic though. I already knew the answer of that question before I made it.

"Shocker. I'd have you with a new one by now" I said clearly uninterested in the conversation we were having. Still the view was good from the huge pool in the Hilton's of Waikiki. It's not that I didn't enjoy other treats of the island than the beach.

"And what about you? Any boy that you're interested in?" she insisted on getting something from me, so I sighed knowing I'd have to give her something. Even if I didn't even know how to answer that question yet.

"Maybe" I shrugged my shoulders while scrolling through instagram on my phone when I noticed a text from Cody, saying he'd pick me up. "Nothing serious. Hey I'm heading to the beach with my friends. See you later" I explained my whereabouts poorly as I gathered up my things to get the hell out of there. Too much bonding for one day.

"Fine. Just text me every once in a while" she reminded me in an automatic voice that reminded me to Google's lady. I growled out in frustration to the directive. What a pain she is. "If your brother calls and I don't know where you are, he'll freak out" she insisted and unfortunately I found some truth in her words.

"Right. I'll text you later mom. Bye" I replied with not much intention of doing so. As overprotective as Steve was, he hadn't called much these days. He wasn't exactly reachable wherever he was.

Only Kono and occasionally Danny would check on me these days. The latest would usually bring news of my brother, at least to let me know he was alive, though I really didn't know whether he was safe. Even when sometimes it kept me up at night, I couldn't really worry myself over it, since he was a grownup and besides, he was with Cath. She'd always keep him safe. I trusted her.

Cody picked me up by my mom's hotel and he took the long way to the beach, and really fast. He knew how much I liked that road, with the ocean and the sun right there. Even with the speed of the car, everything seemed to happen in slow motion out there by the horizont, the golden sun following us all the way to our destination. It was something I could stare forever.

"You went missing for a while. We thought you didn't like us anymore" Cody commented while we were getting our stuff out of the car.

"No way! It's just... a lot of homework, a lot of groundings as well" I rolled my eyes when I recalled the last few events of my life. Seriously, too many spankings as well. I knew who's fault it was though.
