Jill's POV

My eyes followed my brother's figure cautiously as he exited the room, leaving me alone with Kono holding a paper envelope. I had promised to stay out of his business, but he certainly wasn't making it any easier. I felt a distinctive pinch in my chest when the door was closed behind him. It seemed I had memorized my brother's back more than his face lately. Kono turned on her heels and, after carefully putting the blessed envelope in her bag, she pushed the glass door open well aware I had been staring at her for like five minutes now.

"Hey Jill" Kono greeted me warmly despite my cold armor. I wasn't one to trust anyone so fast, so I gave her a rather analytic glance over before I decided to speak my mind.

"I don't think we ever were properly introduced" I said without being able to help the irony to roll freely through my tongue. She didn't seem to take it badly though. If anything she was smirking cheekily on my way. "What?" I asked with an eyebrow raised.

"You've got a seaweed on your hair" she chuckled while getting the sticky green stuff out of my gorgeous and for the moment messy bun of blonde hair.

"Oh yeah. Steve took me to the beach, to ride a couple waves before coming here" I said checking for anymore seaweeds or any other living forms from the sea I might have carried with me to the central.

"Wow that's great. Well if you want I can teach you some moves. I was pretty good back in my years" she offered so kindly it was hard to say not to. Especially when she said she was good.

"That sounds awesome, but I'm kind of probation or something" I let her know casually of my unfortunate situation. I really didn't know when Steve would let go a bit and that meant I was confined to the house and him until further notice.

"Hm. We'll see what we can do" she winked at me with a smile that I shared almost immediately. I had the feeling this girl was going to be my savior in several occasions.

"I had the feeling we were going to get along" I nodded along without losing my 'I'm interested' look on her.

"We really don't know each other much though. How about we solve that problem over a can of soda? My treat" Kono offered gently and I nearly jumped in excitement for at least a couple seconds out of the box. This place could make you go crazy.

"Only if I get to go there with you. If I stay within these glass walls for five more seconds I'll die" I begged her with my look to take me with her even if it was just down the hall.

"I don't see the problem. Come on then" she concluded after a second of thought and I cheered inside. You couldn't simply break the rules. It's better if you bend them little by little.

I ended up learning a lot about Kono during out small talk. Apparently my brother had recruited her for an undercover mission when she had just graduated from the Academy. When she told me about the situation a chill went down my spine. I couldn't believe being so young and inexperienced she had risked herself to get into a room with tons of guys armed to their teeth around her. Even when things didn't turn out pretty well, she got out of it. She was like a wonder woman or something in my young eyes.

"That really takes guts" I said as I savored my exquisite cookies and strawberries ice cream. So yeah, we had gotten a bit carried away and we said: if we're getting sodas, why not an ice cream from the shop down the street?

"You'd know. For what I know you've been in worse situations yourself" she complimented me as my eyes stared at my melting in my hands cone of ice cream. I really tried not to think much about the times my life was in danger.

"Yeah well... it's not exactly pleasant" I concluded while bringing back my eyes to the woman across the table.

"I know, but it does take a lot of courage. You're a lot like your brother in that way" she commented lightly and I snort laughed at that. I didn't think we shared much my brother and I.
