CHAPTER SEVENTEEN,
beach training.
"you're dead, larusso!"

DANIEL AND OPHELIA STOOD SIDE-BY-SIDE ON THE BEACH, Mr. Miyagi watching them from a distance.
"Okay so now that I've got the basics down, can I learn the kicks and that cool stuff?" Daniel asked, excitedly shuffling back and forth on his feet, which made Ophelia giggled.
Ophelia grinned, shaking her head. "Not quite yet, Daniel." she tutted, amused. "We've gotta spar a little bit more before we can even think about you learning that stuff."
Daniel let out a dramatic groan, which made Ophelia laugh again. This made Daniel smile right back at her; he loved the way she laughed.
She gave him a funny look. "Why are you looking at me like that? C'mon, hit me." She said, motioning for Daniel to come forward.
Daniel crinkled his brows together, shooting Ophelia a hesitant look. "Look, you're a girl and I don't want to hurt y—"
Ophelia immediately cut him off by side kicking his stomach, making him let out a big 'oomph' as he fell back onto the ground, due to the girl's immaculate strength. He clutched his stomach painfully as Ophelia helped him up from the sand.
She looked at him, sighing as she shook her head. "Never underestimate, or hesitate. Just because I'm a girl, doesn't mean that I'm weak." she said, her tone slightly disappointed.
"How. . ." Daniel wheezed out, baffled. "—How can you kick like that?"
Ophelia shrugged as she smirked. "That wasn't even my best kick. You'll get used to it, kiddo."
Daniel's jaw dropped a bit further down, before he decided to catch her off guard as she did with him. He threw hard jabs at her stomach and nose, each one of them blocked as Ophelia looked at his even more defeated and shocked figure.
She raised a brow. "Ah, trying to catch me off guard aren't you?" she said, pointing her long and slender index finger at the boy, before resting it onto her chin in a mock thinking manner.
"That was a good try; they were good hits. . . But the thing is, is that you NEVER let your guard down. Letting your guard down is the worst thing you could do in a fight."
Daniel nodded, now focused intently on her words. He was really wanting to learn as many karate tips as possible; anything to help make him get nearly as good as the young girl in front of him.
Daniel looked over to where Mr. Miyagi was. Ophelia followed his glance to find Miyagi in the distance whilst standing on one of the wooden beach pillars. He brought his arms up, making it clear to Ophelia that the man was practicing the very tough Crane Kick that she had just barely mastered a while ago.
Daniel pointed to Mister Miyagi in awe. "What kind of trick is that?" he asked curiously. Ophelia smiled at him.
"That's a very tough trick; the Crane Kick. Took me about five months to even try to land it, though." Ophelia said, her eyes still trained on Miyagi's distant figure as Daniel's eyes focused back onto her.
"You can do that?" He asked, his jaw dropped again. How amazing can this girl get?, Daniel wondered to himself.
Ophelia nodded, smiling bashfully as she refaced Daniel. She didn't like talking about herself that much, nonetheless her biggest accomplishments.
"Yeah, a little bit. I'm not a master or whatever at it like Mr. Miyagi is." Ophelia said shyly, a blush forming on her cheeks. Daniel grinned at this, resisting the urge to kiss both of her rosy cheeks; that would just be weird.
"Alright, enough with the chit-chat, let's get back to training." Ophelia said sternly, snapping out of her bashful state.
Daniel nodded, clearing his throat as he got back into his fighting stance which Ophelia helped him master easily.
Ophelia abruptly let out a loud Kiai yell, signaling her punch to warn Daniel. She threw a strong one, but not too strong, and Daniel blocked it immediately. This routine continued on for a few more minutes, before she switched to kicks for him to block.
She stopped after about ten kicks, panting as she tried her best to catch her breath; she wasn't the most athletic, believe it or not.
"You're getting really good, Daniel. Maybe even someday you can beat me," Ophelia claimed, half-joking, half-seriously.
"Someday?" Daniel mocked, lunging towards the shorter girl, and grazed his long fingers against her sides, tickling her.
"DANIEL!—" Ophelia shrieked out through her wheezing laughter, looking up through her clenched eyes to see a grinning Daniel LaRusso, "—YOU'RE DEAD WHEN I GET STARTED ON YOU, I SWEAR!"
Daniel seized his hand movements, leaning down over the heavily breathing girl who was begging for mercy on the sandy ground as they looked at each other with matching grins. "Oh, you are, are you now?" he asked, but then regretted it.
Ophelia pounced up from the ground and started chasing the laughing boy across the sandy shore.
"You're dead, LaRusso!" she cackled as she ran after the shrieking boy, both of them unaware of Mister Miyagi grinning over at his two students fondly.
