((tw: hunting, slight panic attack))
Dog's nose pointed South, the wind coming up from that direction - telling George he was upwind from any prey. The odds were in his favor. George watched as Dog folded her floppy ears back, a signal that she had caught a scent. From the way Dog reacted... The prey wasn't far off. Satisfied with the situation so far, George got prepared.
He lowered his goggles over his brown gaze. George's goggles were a bit of an edge he had. Enchanted with a special hunting charm, it allowed the user to see a visible outline of footprints. That, and it allowed George to see color.
The forest was once a dull monochrome cast of yellows and browns. Now it was lush array of greens and vibrant hues of ever other color. He scanned the area in which Dog faced. Sure enough, a small trail of rabbit prints bounded down the foliage. He listened closely for just a moment, hearing nothing but wind in the trees.
Then he heard it.
Further down the way, a twig snapped. Dog let out a small woof in reaction. George readied his bow, drawing the arrow back slowly so the string didn't creak. His gazed lined the footprints and where the sound was heard. His lungs filled with a steady breath as he focused. The fingers holding the drawstring loosened sending the arrow whizzing through the air with deadly accuracy.
George cringed when he heard the arrow stick into something fleshy, and the something fleshy release a heart-wrenching squeal. Dog wiggled where she stood, waiting for her owner's command.
"Go-" George barely got the word out of his lips before Dog darted down into the brush before returning a moment later, a limp brown rabbit with an arrow sticking in its side locked in her jaws. Off in the not so far distance, the girthy caw of a crow echoed.
"That's odd. Crows aren't in season..." George commented absentmindedly as he placed the bow on his back.
Dog plopped the fresh-kill on the floor and wiggled her tail joyfully. The hunger George felt in his stomach overwhelmed his feeling of guilt. He knelt down and tied a rope around the rabbits hind legs too carry it. When the rope was tightened, a large crack of thunder roared with intensity.
"Mother fu-" George fell back on his rear, scrambling back until he felt something solid - a tree - against his back. His breathing picked up with the wind. George's breath became so shallow, he was drowning in air. Dog saw this and rushed to meet George at the base of the tree just in time for another crash of thunder and rain to pour. This however, sent George into a spiral. Dog whined and bit the sleeve of George's tunic and tugged.
"Dog no- please-" But Dog just tugged harder, her ginger pelt darkening with the rain. George stumbled, Dog wanted him up, so he did. Once on his feet, Dog repositioned herself at his side. George barely managed to pull the hood of his clock over his head before Dog started to guide him back up the hill to the cottage.
The walk felt like an eternity, but in reality it was a a few minutes at most. Once he climbed the small hill, his heart completely sank. At the fence that surrounded his home, was a carriage of royal ties. Dog's muzzle curled back into a snarl, a low and grizzly growl exited her mouth. Just beyond the fence at George's front door, was two soldiers, covered in the same dark armor from George's nightmare. But the two soldiers of darkness were escorting another man, dressed in noble robes of grays and purples with an umbrella. But what George failed to notice... Was the three crows sitting stop the cottage.
He stopped in his tracks, his gaze locked on the strangers. George instinctively reached for a danger that he usually had strapped to his thigh. He cursed the name of Notch, the god of this world, when he realized his dagger was back in his house. He had half a mind to turn tail and run into the forest, but the crinkling of thunder forced him forward.
