That was that. They all agreed to hunt Dream down. It was final now. They had all sealed their fate. How bad could it truly be? After all, George was hunting down the most infamous criminal in all the Six Kingdoms. And he was teaming with three other men he didn't know anything about. Apparently they were all quite skilled in things that'll help take Dream down. Meaning, they were all very deadly.
Anxiety plucked George's heart as he followed the other men out of the castle hall. He studied them.
The person the Queen had called juggernaut was just that. A juggernaut. He was a bulky man, with budding muscles. His armor was thick. A two-handed axe was strapped to his back. His longish black hair was kept at bay by the white cloth tied around his forehead. A soft scruff hugged his chin. His amber gaze intense. He had a family emblem of a flame on his hip, it was used as a buckle to hold an orange cloth to his side.
The second man, the man in dark colors was harder to read. He was tall and slim. George couldn't tell if he had weapons or anything on his. It was quite terrifying. His most interesting feature was it lack of shoes, instead his feet were wrapped in bandages.
The final man was easier. He was of average height. He had fluffy brown and black hair and piecing blue eyes. His most interesting asset was his patchy skin. He had tan skin overall, with areas of pure white. He was dressed in light leather armor, with two swords at his side. He had a half-cape of blue draped over his shoulder.
"I guess we should introduce ourselves. Since we are a team n all." Spoke the juggernaut. "My name is Sapnap." He said. "Uh.. i guess I'm a tank? I can take a hit so i guess ill be on the front lines."
"I am Anthony Frost!" The man in leather armor said with pride. "But you can call me Ant." He purred. "I am a sword-for-hire, so I'll be on the front lines as well!"
"George Founders. And this is Dog." George gestured to the pooch, who had now calmed herself into a lazy state. She yawned. The three men looked at the final man expectantly. "I uh.. use a bow. So..."
The final man slowly turned to face the others. "I'm an assassin..." He muttered, his voice low and menacing. You could tell it put tension of the other three men. He slowly lowered his bandana and hood, revealing a soft face with bright eyes and fluffy hair. "I'm Badboyhalo! But call me Bad!" He smiled warmly. It was goddamn terrifying. He was absolutely so wholesome looking. But he was also a blood-thirsty assassin.
George gave an awkward smile. "Well, lovely meeting you all. Just lovely. And terrifying. Mostly lovely though!" George clapped his hands together. "But does anyone idea how we start tracking Dream?" he asked.
Bad nodded. "Oh yeah! Here." From his satchel, Bad pulled out a ripped piece of green fabric. "This was Dream's." Everyone gave him a confused look. "I'm an assassin guys, the Queen isn't the only one who wants Dream dead."
"So you know him?" Ant asked.
George grabbed the cloth and leaned down to had Dog sniff it. "I mean, yeah. We've had a few run-ins or so. He's almost killed me, I've almost killed him, it's really just cat and mouse."
"Is he good?" Sapnap piped in eagerly. He clearly joined for the thrill of a fight.
"Oh yes. He is very good. Whoever trained him was a remarkable swordsmen. He fights with every weapon, and has some other tricks up his sleeves too"
Dog's inhaled the cloth deeply then sniffed the floor for a moment. She wiggled her tail excitedly then froze all together, her nose pointing at the castle gate. "Got a scent!" George cheered as he lowered his enchanted goggles over his eyes.
"That fast?" Bad muttered.
"Yeah... the scent actually starts within the castle walls, so she picked it up fairly easily. There aren't any discernable tracks though." He commented as no footprints appeared on his goggles. "We can follow Dog for as long as the trail allows up, then from there its all chance." George explained. His eyes scanned the ridges of the walls, looking for any easy way for exit or entrance.
"Tracks? How can you see the tracks?" Sapnap poked.
"My goggles are enchanted with a hunter's charm. It allows me to see footprints or scent paths. Dream left neither."
"Enchants are expensive. Oh Georgie, are you rich?" Sapnap teased.
"Uh, no a friend gave me them as a gift." He chuckled lightly. Dog barked impatiently. "Go!" He called and Dog darted off, racing down the path. "She usually doesn't run, what-" George was cut off as he started to run after his dog. The three remaining men gave each other side glances and shrugs before they too ran after Dog.
The chased Dog all the way out the the City walls and down the mountain path. The scent she was following was strong, meaning Dream had recently been within the Kingdom walls. After the group was a fair distances away from the city-gates, Dog slowed to a simple trot.
The sky had cleared a little now, leaving room for the golden rays of light to seep through the openings. They where entered the forest now. Sunlight trickled through the gaps of the trees, dappling the forest floors like spots of pure honey. George had always loved the atmosphere after it rained. When the birds returned to singing, and the air was moist with the after-rain. He always looked for rainbows when he was a kid.
The rainbow after a storm always reminded him that bad was always temporary. It was Sam who gifted him the white goggles. It was just before the war. George mentioned never knowing the true colors of the rainbow. So for his eighteenth birthday, Sam presented him with the enchanted goggled.
Three months later, George convinced Sam to go to war. Only one returned.
Once they were in the cover of the trees, Dog slowed even more so they were just walking. George was focused on the surrounding, making a mental map of where they were and where they were going. It was long before George tuned into the conversation being held by his teammates.
"So Ant Frost. Anty boy. Frost man. You have someone back home?" Sapnap asked out of the blue.
"Uhm yes actually. My partner and i run a bakery in the town of Badlands, just East of here."
"Oh!" Sapnap laughed. "Is your wife a good baker?"
"Yes, my husband is!" Ant punched Sapnap in the shoulder teasingly. "He is such a good chef in fact, the town calls him Red Velvet. For his cakes are superior."
"Nice nice." Sapnap nodded awkwardly, clearly embarrassed "Wholesome. We love to see it." Sapnap threw his hands behind his head as he walked in a leisurely stroll. "What about you Bad? Got a lover?"
Bad remained silent for a moment. "I did." Was all he said after a tense second of silence.
"Georgie?" Sapnap gulped.
"I'm going to be honest here Sapnap, you don't have a great track-record so far of asking about people's love-life. You really wanna ask me too?" George laughed.
"I mean... i already did ask." Sapnap muttered.
"No, i don't have a lover nor am i interested." George answered truthfully as he put on the goggles again, looking towards the forest floor.
"Me either. But once this job is done. Oh boy you bet I'll be swarmed by the ladies!" Sapnap started talking again, but no one was paying attention to him anymore.
George scanned the floor, looking for any sign of the masked man. Soon, tracks made themselves known as a faint white outline traced then. They were men's prints. The odd thing was, it ended here, in the middle of the road. George cocked his head to the side and glanced around. Dog sat down, and yelped out.
"What is that? What is she doing?" Ant asked nervously.
"We are at the end of the trail..." George muttered. Slowly, he removed the bow that had been on his back and he grabbed an arrow from the quiver.
"Which means....?" Sapnap followed George's lead and readied his axe.
A figure dropped from the trees silently. The figure landed just behind the group, they only made their presence known with a gentle thud. The four men spun around with weapons drawn.
"You've found me..."
