George had left long before the sun had even risen. He left the sleeping Clay with regret heavy in his heart. But he didn't leave without saying goodbye. Leaving being some fresh food, water and a note, George left with his head held high but his heart sunk low.
He didn't want to leave Clay behind. He wanted to stay, make sure he made it through the night. But once it was clear he was going to live, George had no reason to stay there. He knew he'd get bombarded with questions as soon as he got back. He would need an excuse.
When dawn broke the sky, George made it back to camp. Sapnap was passed out, snoring like a bear. Ant was awake, but not conscious. But Bad was fully awake. He was sitting next to the fire pit, tending to the fire and keeping it low. Dog was laying beside him, occasionally getting head pats from Bad.
As soon as George stumbled into the small clearing, Bad turned to look at him. He had his hood down as well as his bandana. Bad looked do sweet and so innocent. A geeky grin spread on his face.
"Well, I thought you died." He giggled.
George laughed nervously. "I found a lead while hunting, I just thought I'd check it out." George took a place beside the fire.
Bad cocked and eyebrow, clearly not believing him. "And where did this 'lead' take you?" He pressed.
He shrugged. George held his hands close to the flame, allowing it to warm him. "No where useful." George said with a sigh. "How was last night?"
"Well Dog came back with the rabbit, we just assumed you were hunting for more. Sapnap passed out but Ant had it rough. We really need to get him checked out." Bad said, throwing another piece of wood into the fire pit. George nodded. "Have you slept?"
"A little." George shifted where he sat. "I'm used to not sleeping though so I'll be okay. When are we heading to the village?" He asked.
"Whenever Sapnap wakes up really." Bad mumbled.
They didn't sit there for much longer. When the Sun was fully in the sky and the gentle hues of dawn had faded into blue, everyone was awake and ready. They cleaned and packed up their makeshift camp-site. Sapnap was notably quiet this morning. From the less than 48 hours George had known him, Nick seemed to be a chatter box. Something was bothering him.
Ant was also uneasy. George figured it was because he was hurt and home sick. George kind of envied him with all honesty. Ant had someone back home. A lover to embrace after this journey was over. He wondered if he would ever have that. Would George ever marry and settle down? Domesticated life seemed like a distance dream, something George could never get close enough to ever grasp.
Bad seemed perky enough. This had become a familiar sight though. Ironic that the assassin of all people was the most chipper. George noticed Bad was strangely eager to get to the village. Did Bad know something the other's didn't? That question would be answered soon enough.
They made it to the village not long after their departure from the forest. Once they were inside the village gates, Bad shed his hood and cloth mask. He looked around, scoping out Dream. After a few seconds, Bad turned to the group and nodded.
"Sapnap and Ant, see if you can find a healer. We'll need healer supplies for the journey. George, your job is to find the blacksmith, get any weapons you can." Bad declared. He ringed his hands together.
George nodded but Sapnap spoke up. "What'll you do?"
"I'm going to see if anyone has seem our little Dream. Plus i wanna ask about this." Bad pulled out the green rose. "We'll meet back here within the hour. Alright?" With this team break, the three teams wondered off in different directions.
