"Come in!" George called out as Ember walked in. Dog's demeanor had completely changed. The fur on her spine spiked up and she bared her front teeth with a vicious snarl.
"I do wish you'd control your dog Hunter." Ember mumbled as she shut the thick wooden door shut behind her. She was dressed in a rather... revealing dress. Her neckline had dipped into a narrow 'v' shape that ended at her naval. The skirt of the dress was slim, with a straight slit down her right side. She wore no shoes, no jewelry.
"I can't..." George's eyes drifted out to the window, making sure there was no sign of Wilbur. While he was distracted, the Queen approached him.
Without so much of a warning, Ember pressed herself onto George, looking up at him with big eyes. George furrowed his brows, avoiding all eye-contact, and placed his arms behind his back so he wouldn't touch her. She gripped the blouse George was wearing in her fists and held him close. He wanted her off. Dog apparently wanted the same thing as she physically stood up and stepped closer, spit dripping from her muzzle.
"Please get off-"
"-Georgie..." She whined. "I came to thank you." She reached up and cupped George's pale face, forcing him to look at her. "It's because of you we've captured Dream..." She lifted herself up onto her tippy-toes.
Because of me? George thought as a snarl formed on his face. He closed his eyes tight and scoffed out. "You know damn well that isn't true..." George forced his forearm between their bodies and pushed her back. "You framed me, didn't you?"
The Queen stumbled back. A mixture of rage and confusion plastered itself onto her body. Dog leapt from the bed and took a defensive stance between her and George. "I suppose you of all people would figure it out." She stood up straight, brushing off her gown. Her helpless demeanor fading away completely.
"Why'd you do it?" George then noticed he still had the dagger in his hand. His grip tightened as he watched Ember's every move.
George challenged Ember's eyes. Her eyes were so unnatural this close. They were pure purple, and her pupils were more like slits than circles. "I'm assuming he told you about my past, hmm?" She took her eyes off George as she stared to walked around the room, drifting her hands over the chairs and dressers and everything she could. "He lied."
"I do find that rather hard to believe, your highness." He spoke with a cruel tone.
She snickered lightly. "You are right... Highness..." She purred. "This crown always did belong to me, you know..." She reached up and brushed her fingers along the diamond crown that sat on her head. "Do you believe in love?"
"What?"
"It's a simple question, Hunter. I do suggest you answer it."
"I..."
"Answer it George."
"U-uh"
Ember brushed a strand of fallen hair from her face. Her black lips parted into a toothy grin. "You see when i was younger, the late King and I were in love." She hummed. "Only when that bastard wench came along did everything shatter beneath me. I freed them you know. The King had turned into a tyrant with her by his side. Then came along their children." She shivered as if she were cold. "I saved this kingdom..."
"By damning it?" George spat.
There was a twinkle in Ember's unnaturally colored eyes. Her smile only grew. "George i know you want to see me as the villain but face it, I am the only one who hasn't left you yet. I am still here for you." She spread her arms out in a presentation. "You need me."
"I need you?" George blinked slowly, his gaze still trained on the Queen.
"I am all you have left." She out-reached a hand towards him. "Join me, George. Be by my side tomorrow when we damn that bastard prince to hell."
George narrowed his eyes, staring intensely. She offered him a place at the execution. He thought back to what Wilbur said. Stall her. He nodded slowly and took her hand. Dog whined sharply and folded her ears back, pressing into George's legs.
He wasn't doing this for her, or even himself at this point. All of this was for Clay. He knew only one of their souls would leave that field tomorrow, and he'd be damned if it was Clay's.
He silently answered Ember's questioned. Yes. He did believe in love. For the first time ever he believe in it. He remembered the warmth he felt whenever he saw those bright green eyes, how safe he was when he was in Clay's arms. Even though George was sure Clay hated him and believed him a traitor, he wouldn't stop protecting Clay.
It wasn't about just Clay anymore. It was about Sapnap, about Ant and Bad. About the Fourth and Fifth kingdoms. It was about the balance of power in Minn-Crafteous. He knew leaving Ember with a crown would mean true destination. George figured she'd seek more power.
If they thought him a traitor, he'd live up to that name. With a dagger to Ember's back.
