I'd Rather Be A Mundane

Alec's POV

I touched her cheek her skin freezing cold but I could still feel her in my heart in my body I looked to my parabiti rune to still see it there just as bold as before "she's not dead" I whispered to myself before standing up "she's not dead" I said louder I could hear Izzy cry a little louder at my words " Alec it's okay" Jace said coming up to my side "look, my rune it's still there, if she were dead I would feel it would be gone" I stood up shouting pointing to my rune.

My mother walked over to me "Alec stop this now, I understand shes your parabiti and I'm deeply saddened by this but maybe it's for the best" she whispered the last part "for the best, please tell me my own mother didn't just say this was for the best" I spat back at her

"Alec" a small delicate whisper said "Kiana" I swung around and knelt by her side holding her head "hey, hey Kia keep your eyes open" I whispered too her "get the doctor now" my mother said to one of her shadow hunter guards.

The doctors came running in rushing straight too Kiana's side checking her wounds and her vitals.

"she-sh-she's fine" the doctor stuttered to one of the others I walked over to his side looking down at Kiana whose face was no longer pale I pulled the sleeve up on her arm to see there was no mark or cuts I checked her stomach nothing "Demon cuts don't just heal " Jace said "I feel fine, maybe they weren't as deep as you thought" she looked between the doctors confused faces she put a smirk on her lips and pushes past the doctors to stand up "see" she smiled "perfectly fine"

The doctor ushered her back into the bed before fiddling with wires and tubes at the side of her.

"Kiana I want you to stay put in the infirmary tonight you need a full check over" My mother said to her "now you care mother" I seethed at her I saw Kiana pull a scrunched up face before looking at my mother confused "Alec no" Jace said.

"Jace what's going on, how long have I been out" Kiana says, worry now pictured on her face.

Jace moved around me and now stood at Kiana's side he took her hand "not long" he said to her she looked even more confused than before "Kiana, your heart stopped, we thought you were gone" Jace said quietly her eyes went wide, she looked down to her arm where the tubes were and up to the monitor, her eyes then met my wet and red ones before understanding what Jace just said.

"How?" She questioned her eyes quickly moving to my mother's " we don't know" my mother tried to reply before Kiana cut her off "maybe it's for the best" Kiana said shocking everyone around her "that's what Alec was talking about, you said 'maybe it's for the best'" Kiana swung her legs over to the opposite side to where me and Jace was and begun walking over to my mother slowly.

I began to slightly move towards them both too not wanting either of them to start some sort of argument.

Kiana just stood there looking at her, a tear fell down her face "thank you" Kiana whispered my mother's face contoured in confusion "Kiana" she tried to say "no, thank you for proving what I already knew" Kiana walked away from her not looking at me once she wiped the tear from her cheek and left the infirmary.

I started to follow before Jace grabbed my shoulder "leave her, she needs to be left alone" he said his hand letting go of me "because you suddenly know what she needs" I snapped back at him.

"He's right Alec, she's just been told we thought she was dead and that her only mother figure doesn't care" Izzy said taking a side glance at our mother "I didn't mean it the way it came out, Alec you could both be stripped of your runes and banished to the mundane world, I'd lose my son" she said trying to fix what damage she'd already done.

"You don't understand mom, you have no idea what it feels like, I'd rather be a mundane than live without her" I said my mother's mouth falling open "Alec" she barely said before I walked out.

I so desperately wanted to be with her to hold her and never let her go but I knew Jace and Izzy were right she's need time and space I needed to give her that.
