It was about midday as I sat next to Ali on a beach towel, chatting a bit while a few people including Daniel and Freddy played soccer. I watched them a little bit, smiled as the ball went back and forth. I felt someone nudge me.
"He's cute." Ali said, looking over at Daniel before back at me. I looked at Daniel again, smiling.
"Yeah. He is." Ali smiled at me again.
"You'd be cute together." I pushed her shoulder, chuckling a bit.
"You're funny, Ali." I said, shaking my head.
"I'm serious." She exclaimed.
"You know I don't date after what happened with Johnny." I said, rolling my eyes.
"Oh come on Marie. You can't let that jerk dictate your love life. He was a jerk." I smiled at her.
"I know, I just...I don't know." Suddenly, I felt something hit my leg, turning my attention to the soccer ball. I looked up to see Daniel jogging over. I smiled, picking up the ball and standing up. Our eyes met and I threw him the ball, which he caught on his knee before bouncing it to the other knee, catching it in his arm.
"Nice." I smiled at him, nodding. Daniel winked, making me chuckle, before being pulled away. Ali grabbed my arm and was pulling me towards the water. I looked back at Daniel, giving him a smile before running into the water."See. Was that so bad?" I rolled my eyes at her, a smile on my face as I splashed her with water, making her scream before laughing. She was right, it wasn't so bad.

It was later at night, and I sat near a fire with Ali and the rest of her friends. I tried paying attention to the conversation, but I kept looking over at Daniel, who I caught staring at me a couple of times. "You really like him, huh?" I looked over at Ali, looking down with a smile.
"I guess. I don't know, really." I said, messing with my hands. Suddenly, the soccer ball landed on the blanket, making me jump a bit before grabbing the ball. I stood up, and threw him the ball, causing him to bounce it on his knees again.
"Is that hard to learn?" I asked, smiling.
"Not really." He shrugged, kinda cocky.
"Can you show me how to do it?" I asked, tilting my head. Daniel smiled, his eyes lighting up.
"Sure."

I was having fun, talking to Daniel as he attempted to show me how to bounce the ball, when suddenly I heard the familiar roar of motorcycles. I felt my heart stop, and I looked up at the hill where the lights from motorcycles lit up.
With a split second decision, I kicked the ball as hard as I could, sending it flying. It landed near the ocean surf, and Daniel began to jog to get it. I watched him before running back to Ali. "Should we go?" I asked, kind of panicking.
"Relax, it's alright. Just ignore him." I nodded, my heart beating quickly as Johnny and his gang arrived on the beach. I clenched my teeth, looking at the sand as Johnny walked over.
"Hey Ali. Hey Marie." We both ignored him, and Ali turned up the radio as we continued to ignore Johnny. "I just wanna talk."
"We don't wanna talk." Ali turned up the radio, making Johnny narrow his eyes.
"Well I wanna talk to you." Johnny said, turning off the radio. Neither of us responded as I reached over and turned the radio back on. It was shut off almost immediately. "What is your problem?" Johnny asked, anger in his voice.
