The night went by much too quickly and I didn't reach my own place until roughly 4am.. which made me unbelievably thankful that I didn't have work that day.
I was dreading the fact that the team might have to go into work to day, let alone have a case.
I thought about texting JJ to ask but I remembered the car that was resting gently at the bottom of my handbag from earlier that day.
I rolled over in my bed and reached my arm over the bed frame, searching until I found my handbag that i had left there.
I rummaged through the bag itself, throwing aside wrappers and hand sanitisers before finding a card wrapped in my fingers.
I pulled my hand out of the bag, reading the text.
Doctor Spencer Reid
**** - **** - ***
I whipped out my phone that was still in my pocket and added him to my contacts.
me: hey! it's y/n. I was just wondering if you all had a case today?
spence: yeah, we just got called in for one, why?
me: considering the copious amounts everyone drank last night, I was just wondering how everyone was doing
spence: sunglasses and constant groaning at every little moment and light. so pretty good
I chuckled at his comment.
spence: have you got any plans today?
me: I was thinking about doing some reading, probably finishing the book since I have a day off today
spence: well if you end up finishing it tonight, let me know. we can figure out a time and place to discuss the book.
me: sure will, we could do it tomorrow if you're not in work. but I'll let you know. Good luck on the case, doctor.
spence: good luck on the book, y/n
I placed my phone down on my chest and turned my head to the clock on the wall.
2:37pm.
great.
I lifted myself out of bed, sliding myself out of the dress I had worn the previous night and didn't bother to put anything else on over my underwear.
I left my room, poured myself a cup of coffee along with a slice of toast and headed to my sofa.
I curled up on the couch and grabbed the book that was lying on the table next to it, and continued my reading.
I continued reading along the book, jotting down notes on pages and post it notes as I felt myself getting deeper and deeper into the plot of the book.
I sat there reading for what felt like hours and hours.. and it was.
I finally finished the book around 7pm.
It would've taken less time but I took a break midway through to have some dinner and call Lucy for a bit.
It was.. not at all what I was expecting.
Its not something I would call a book.
It was interesting.
nothing like I've ever read before.
It made me even more interested to hear Spencers thoughts on the book.
me: just finished the novel. How's the case going?
spence: we were supposed to have a case in texas but the texas state police department didn't want us on the case. We had been told about it but not granted permission. So no case today.
me: that sucks?
spence: we could do a lot better on that case than them
spence: so in a way, it does suck
spence: you've finished the book?me: yeah, less than an hour ago.
spence: I'm on my way back to my place, why don't I pick you up and we can start discussing?
me: sounds good.
I sent him my address before jumping off my sofa and rushing to my bedroom.
I mean, I didn't know how far away Spencer is and I'm not clothed right now.
I slid a pair of black cargo pants and tucked in one of my black beatles band tshirts.
I slid on my Dr Martins before tying my hair up into a low ponytail.
I returned to my living room, slid my phone into my pocket and grabbed my book as there was a knock on my door.
He must live pretty close to me if he was here this quickly.
I took one last look at myself in the mirror before opening the door, revealing a very tired looking Spencer Reid at my doorstep.
"I didn't realise you lived so close to me" I stated.
"I didn't realise either" I chuckled. "ready to go?"
He nodded.
I stepped out of my apartment, locking the door behind me as we walked side-by-side out of the building.
He led my down the street to his car as he kindly held the door open for me as I got inside.
He then entered the car on the drivers side and started up his car, the song he was listening to as he was driving here beginning to play almost instantly.
A song I almost instantly recognised as the one I had been listening to non-stop for the past week.
"you know this song?" I turned to him.
"uh yeah, I only heard it for the first time a couple days ago but I really like it" he nodded, not taking his eyes off the road.
"I didn't think this was your type of music" I shrugged.
"it's not. I'm usually a very classical music type but I just like this song" he replied.
"I like it too, in fact.. it's basically all I've been listening to the past week" I chuckled lightly.
"really?" he turned to me for a moment.
"yeah, i love it" I nodded
"like constantly, like a lot over the last week?" he asked.
"yeah, a lot" I nodded.
"that must be fun for your soul mate" he laughed gently.
"I mean, Lucy hasn't said anything about it but I'm sure it has been fun" I responded.
"you think Lucy is your soulmate?" he wondered.
I paused for a moment.
"I mean.. Yeah. she must be, of course she is" I nodded. "have you met yours yet?"
"I don't know.. I think so" he turned to me one last time.
I began lightly singing along as the conversation came to an end.
