"spencer. You know that party in your apartment building the other day. What type of music was playing?" I wondered.
"why?" Spencer asked.
"I'm looking for new music to listen to, that's all" I shrugged.
"I'm not really familiar with it but I heard a few songs I recognise, I think the beatles was a popular choice" he stated.
I almost drowned on the spot.
Oh my god.
Okay.
Okay.
But again, that could be a coincidence.
A lot of people like the beatles.
MILLIONS of people like the beatles.
"good great thanks" I nodded before whipping out my phone.
Me: do you like classical music by any chance? Like do you listen to classical music ever?
Lucy: uh.. no.. I don't. Why?
Me: no reason, I'm just selling a bunch of CD's and was wondering if you wanted any. No worries.
"Emily can I talk to you for a moment?" I turned to the brunette before dragging her out of the room once more.
"they're totally Soulmates!" Emily exclaimed.
"okay but sshhhh" I shushed her. "yes he heard the beatles but this could still be a coincidence! Millions of people like the beatles"
"yeah but.. its quite a big coincidence" Emily stated. "did you text Lucy?"
"yeah. She doesn't listen to classical music or ever has" I bit on my bottom lip gently. "but it coul-"
"still be a coincidence, I know. It's a pretty fucking big coincidence at this point, JJ. but you're right. There's no point assuming or pointing fingers until we have solid proof of Soulmate-idge that cannot be explained or be a coincidence in any way" She nodded.
"okay. Great" I sighed. "now let's actually get back to work and come up with some excuse of why we've rushed off twice in the past 5 minutes"
The brunette chuckled lightly but nodded in response before the two of us exited the office once more and returned to the other agents.
The next few days I noticed that Spencer was visibly distracted.
Like not talking and walking out of conversation distracted.
Anytime we asked him about it, he said he was fine and there wasn't much else to say..
Until one day in the briefing room after we had just finished a case.
We were all packing up to leave when Spencer stood up, slamming his bag onto the table.
"right, enough! Who's doing this?" Spencer asked loudly, startling the rest of the agents and causing them to stare up at him.
"you okay, Spence?" I wondered.
"who's doing this?" I asked again. "you've had your fun, now just stop. I'm SICK of it! Just stop with the music please"
"Spencer, what are you talking about?" Derek asked.
"are you guys messing with me?" he glared.
"Spencer, calm down" Emily frowned. "what's wrong?"
"I've been hearing music, the faintest but clearest sound of music out of nowhere ever since I mentioned that stupid party in my apartment. And I know you guys have been doing this" he sighed.
Music?
But we haven't been.. Ohhhh.
OHHHHHH.
"Spencer, we haven't been doing anything" Rossi reassured him.
"don't lie to me" Spencer looked defeated.
"ohhhh" Garcia came to a realisation. "for a genius I thought you'd know about this?"
"know about what?" Spencer wondered, there was still a hint of aggression in his voice.
"the Soulmate thing" I nodded.
"the what thing?" he furrowed his eyebrows.
"the Soulmate thing. Whenever your Soulmate listens to music, you can faintly hear it at the exact same time they're listening to it, no matter where they are and vice verse" Emily explained.
"what? Is this real? Are you messing with me?" Spencer scoffed.
"it's real" Derek nodded, which shocked me because i didn't think he believed in the whole thing.
"it's real" Hotch repeated.
"I have a Soulmate? And the music I've been hearing is what they're listening to? You're really not messing with me?" he asked.
For a genius that knew most things in the world, he sure had a lot of questions.
"no this is a real thing. I've been hearing the new Taylor Swift album for weeks now" Emily cackled.
"so what about the party in my apartment the other day.. Was that not... Was that my Soulmate?" Spencer wondered.
He was no longer angry, he just looked concerned.. And a little scared.
"there very well might have been a party in your building but the way you described it, it does seem like it" I nodded.
I couldn't help but think..
I've been hearing songs.
I haven't spoken about it or told anyone about it but I've been hearing songs.
"JJ, you okay?" I looked up to see Spencer walking by my side as we made our way out into the cold.
"hm? Yeah, yeah I'm okay" I nodded.
"hey, what's wrong?" he wondered.
"it's nothing" I shook my head.
"want me to call you later? We can have a talk?" he suggested.
I nodded.
"okay, cool. I'll call you when I get home" he stated. "hey, why haven't I heard about this Soulmate thing before?"
"I don't know, I don't even really know how I know about it. It's just a thing and it's real. You've never heard this music before?" I questioned.
"I mean yeah but, I never questioned it. I only heard it a couple of times in the BAU and quite often out of it but I just assumed it was the next room or the apartment above or under but this past two weeks have been a lot... and I guess I started questioning it. Now I have my answer" he explained. "anyway, I better go. I'll call you later, okay?"
I nodded as I watched him jump into a cab before jumping into my own.
