"you're a big halloween person, aren't you?" I wondered.

"yeah, it's my favourite holiday and arguably the best one. Why'd you ask?" he asked.

"i noticed the pumpkins in the corner of the room, plus the naturally autumnal colours of your apartment" I explained.

"yeah, the team are coming over for Halloween to have a little pumpkin carving party" he stated.

"that sounds really fun. I feel like people associate Halloween with kids nowadays but I think Halloween is more fun for adults" I shrugged.

"exactly! I mean, we don't need to dress up but we can watch movies and decorate and dress all spooky and carve pumpkins. By 2005, just over half of adults celebrated Halloween. Today, that number has grown to over 70 percent. Those between 18 and 34 years old participate at the highest rate" he stated.

Oh he's a little child inside, isn't he?

"I've always preferred Halloween to Christmas. Mostly autumn though, it's just cosy and I like the weather and the crunchy leaves and how dark it gets and the colours. It's just wonderful" I sighed.

"they're all coming over on November 29th.. I bought an extra pumpkin, you wanna come along?" he wondered.

"I'd uh.. I'd love to, Spence. Thank you" I nodded.

I opened my mouth to speak again when my phone started ringing.

"sorry, I'll be back now" I stood up and exited the apartment, closing the door behind me as I stood in the hallway, pressing my phone to my ear. "hey baby"

"hey, beautiful. Are you busy right now?" Lucy asked.

"how come?" I wondered.

"just thought I could come over, we could have some dinner, some wine. It'll be lovely" she suggested.

"I'm actually over Spencer's right now" I replied.

"Spencer? Spencer Reid? Agent Spencer Reid?" I could hear the confusion in her voice.

"it's.. Doctor. And yes, Spencer Reid" I nodded.

"why are you over there?" her voice became more serious.

"he lent me a book so I came over for us to discuss it and exchange notes on it. I don't know anyone who likes books as much as I do so I thought it'd be fun" I explained.

"you're alone with him, in his aparment?" she asked, already knowing the answer.

"oh come on, baby. don't be like that" I chuckled.

"I mean, he's an attractive guy. you're... perfect.. and you're alone together" she began explaining.

"you're my girlfriend. We've been together for years, you're my whole entire world. Do you really think something is gonna happen? That I'm gonna do something?" I wondered, raising my voice a little.

"I just don't think he's as innocent as he likes to come across, I don't want him to.. do anything" she sighed.

"he's not going to, Lucy. We're just discussing books" I scoffed. "even if he did, I love you. I wouldn't let him"

"have you been drinking? Have you both been drinking?" she wondered.

"coffee, yeah. Both of us are sober, you... you have nothing to worry about. I love you, okay? Want me to come home right now?" I asked.

"I trust you. Just make sure nothing happens. I love you, I'll see you later" I didn't bother responding to her before hanging up the call.

Seriously?

I sighed heavily before returning into the apartment.

"sorry about that" I frowned, closing the door behind me.

"is everything okay?" he asked gently, his eyebrows slightly furrowed.

"yeah, yeah everything is fine. Just the wife checking up on me" I chuckled lightly.

She really thinks something is gonna happen?

She thinks Spencer is gonna do something?

She thinks that... I? Might do something?

She claims she trusts me but I don't know..

"is that all? Your energy has completely changed since you got that phone call" he stated.

"she's just.. I don't think she likes that I'm here, she thinks somethings gonna happen, that I'm gonna.. cheat on her or whatever" I scoffed, sitting back down on the sofa.

"you've been together for 3 years.. she thinks you could be capable of that?" he wondered.

"she said she trusts me but she clearly doesn't as much as I trust her, I know what she meant" I shrugged.

"you two should talk. why don't you head home?" he suggested.

"I don't really want to talk to her right now" I admitted.

"that's okay, you want another cup of coffee?" he wondered.

"I think I'm okay" I nodded, taking a sip of the one I already had. "so that song by the critters you were listening to in the car. That's not a very well known song, where did you hear it?"

"I just.. heard it" he shrugged.

He averted his eyes as he said that.

He's clearly hiding something.

"by your record collection, I'm guessing its a rather new genre of music for you" I stated.

"you'd be right indeed" he chuckled lightly.

"who's your favourite classical composer? I wondered, as my phone began buzzing.

"you wanna get that?" he asked, not answering my question.

I sighed, taking out my phone.

My love: I'm sorry
My love: I worded it wrong
My love: I trust you
My love: I trust you so much
My love: please come home
My love: I miss you
My love: please don't upset me like this
My love: just come to me.

"you gotta go?" Spencer asked.

"yeah" I nodded. "we can do this again though, yeah?"

"yeah.. yeah, of course. We can do this when you've finished your new book or.. even before if you want, I can show you my piano skills?" he suggested.

"that'd be really cool" I stood up from the couch. "and I'll show you mine"

"wait, you need a ride home" he stood up quickly.

"Lucy lives a couple blocks away, I can just walk" I nodded.

"are you sure? It's dark out" he frowned.

"I'm sure but thank you for the offer. I had a good time discussing books with you, Doctor" I chuckled.

He blinked a couple of times at the use of his title.

"me too" he nodded as I sent him a small wave before exiting the building.
