From Poseidon to Percy

Dear Percy,
I'm writing this to you because I want to apologise for all the times I should have been there, and instead I wasn't.
I could just show up and do it face to face, like a real man would, but I think I lost the right to be called a man when I chose to be a God and not your father. At the time, I thought it was the right decision to make, ad sometimes I still think it was for the best: but not the best for me, or for you. I had too many responsibilities, and that hasn't changed much.
Do you ever wonder how it would be like, go fishing together?
Or go sailing?
Just me and you, the two of us.
But I bet your mother would kill me, she just can't let you go, can she?
Well I understand her point, it's like you never had the chance to know me for what I really am, so why should she leave you with a stranger?
She keeps on telling me that it's up to you, but I think I'm the one who isn't ready to be the dad you should have had. I don't think I'll ever be. And it's not because of you, but just because I have duties which cannot be postponed, and as a God, I can't leave them be.
What I wanted to tell you with this letter is that even though I may not be present every second of your life, know that you're my son and that will never change. It's true, blood doesn't mean family, but it surely is a start: and you proved me well enough that you're brave and selfless, that you fight for what you believe in and that you won't ever give up, not when everyone counts on you.
So trust me when I say your human side makes you even stronger than we Gods are, and that's because you still can feel each way the world affects you: that may sound strange, but it truly is sad not being able to feel just a drop of rain on my skin instead of all the pressure of the seas.
So live and feel like a human, fight like a God, and be yourself Percy, because that's what makes you the extraordinary warrior and person you are.
Remember that even though I don't show you enough, I love you.
