"Team Kakashi, I am assigning you to this rescue mission. Bring her back without fail. Now go!"
"Yes, Tsunade-sama!"
The sun was hiding behind heavy clouds who were ready to pour down droplets of water unto the earth. The atmosphere was chilly, even more than how it was before the team left the village. Due to that, Team Kakashi had to wear their uniform white capes. They had only returned from a mission a few minutes ago but something urgent came up and they had to leave once again.
It was both frustrating and exciting for Naruto; Frustrating that his lunch at Ichiraku's was interrupted, and exciting that he was part of an urgent B-rank mission. It filled his body with adrenaline, that the fire of excitement he was feeling did not make him shiver against the cold breeze that surrounded him as he jumped from tree to tree, following his sensei who was at front, evidently in a hurry.
The objective of the mission was simple. It was to go to this forest, find the enemy hideout, enter and take the captured villager, kick some ninja butt if enemies found them, and badabing badaboom! They get back to the village and the mission is done. In and out. Easy peasy, right? At least that's how Naruto saw it.
As uncomplicated as it sounded for him, Naruto wondered why his team captains, Kakashi and Yamato, both looked troubled -- like they were nervous or something. So, he decided to inquire.
"Kakashi-sensei? Captain Yamato?" He called them as he continued to jump from branch to branch, Sakura and Sai on both of his sides.
"What is it, Naruto?" Kakashi answered without looking back.
"Is everything alright? You both have been strangely quiet ever since we left the village." He asked.
There was a lengthy pause as the two captains secretly exchanged looks. Yamato was the first to speak. "No. There's nothing wrong. Just focus on running."
Unsatisfied with the answer, Naruto frowned, but he chose to not reply. As the two captains move a bit further from them, Sakura took the opportunity to move closer to Naruto and whisper, "Naruto, weren't you listening to the mission details earlier?"
Naruto looks at her, slightly offended. "Wha-- Of course I was! I know what we're supposed to do. Save a villager from rogue ninjas, right?"
"Well, yeah but it's not only that." Sakura replies, "I think you're missing the important detail of the mission." Naruto gives her a confused look.
Sai moves closer to Naruto to join the conversation. "Naruto," the artist says, making the two look at him. "The villager we're going to save is Kakashi-senpai's lover."
"WAIT WHAT?!" Naruto exclaimed, earning looks from the two jonins who were at the front.
"What's going on?" Kakashi asked, turning around but still jumping from branch to branch, Yamato doing the same beside him.
"Nothing nothing!" Sakura laughs in a sheepish manner, "Just focus on leading the way, Kakashi-sensei."
Yamato lightly smirked in an attempt to suppress his amused chuckle, facing front once again. He knew well what the teenagers were talking about. Kakashi, on the other hand, narrowed his eyes on the trio behind him as if he was debating to ask further or let them go. He chose the latter. "Right... Just quiet down. We don't know what enemy could be waiting to ambush us." Then he faced front.
As soon as the trio knew that their two jonin captains weren't looking, Sakura slapped the back of Naruto's head. "Stupid Naruto! You were too loud!"
The blond lad whines as he caresses his head. "That hurt, Sakura-chan!" Surely, the shape of her hand would now appear on it. Sometimes, Naruto would think that Sakura forgets how strong and heavy her hands are. It definitely hurt a lot more now than back when they were younger.
