24. I don't hate you

Jason nodded and walked out of the room, closely followed by Reyna.

At first, it was awkward, but when Jason slightly coughed, Reyna broke the silence.

"I think we should call off our wedding."

"Wait... what?" His voice came in a whisper.

"Yes," she sighed. "Us being here and going on dates with other people is really causing unrest in both our kingdom's."

"Is that really the only reason?"

"Alright be completely honest with me right now, like I'm your best friend, not your fiancee, and tell me, do you like anybody here?"

When Jason didn't reply she added sarcastically, " And don't say me, I know you don't love me that way."

Reyna couldn't bear to see him so sadly confused.

The boy's face had gone red as he muttered, "You're right Reyna. I like someone. But that dosen't mean I wanna break up with you!"

"Jason please. Don't think about hurting me. I understand you don't love me, I can see it. Yes, at a point I had hoped for it, but it can't happen, you can't disagree." She was really struggling to keep her voice from breaking, this was the hardest conversation she'd ever had

Reyna carefully looked up at Jason Grace, whose eyes were filled with guilt.

Finally, he sighed. "I'm so sorry, Reyna. For leading you on all our lives and not being able to return your love, I'm sorry."

"I understand Jason, I truly do." Reyna smiled, trying hard to hold back tears and elbowed him in the stomach. "So now that we're just friends, who's the girl ?" She wriggled her eyebrows at him.

"Our wedding is called off," she announced.

The girls stared at Reyna in complete shock.

She laughed, "Why're you guys looking at me like that? I feel like I've grown another head jeez."

That calmed the atmosphere a little, but Thalia was still very shaken.

"You just broke your engagement with my brother," she stated.

Reyna signed. "Yeah Thalia, I did. Because I had to."

She sat down on the bed and looked straight at Piper. "He shouldn't be alone right now. Piper ? Would you mind talking to him?"

Piper, who clearly wasn't expecting that, was taken aback. "What...me?!"

"Yes now get out there," Reyna said, pushing her towards the door.

It took a lot of persuading to get Piper to finally go to Jason.

After she left, Reyna plopped down on her couch. The other girls sensed she didn't really wanna have company right at that moment and slowly made excuses to leave.

Soon, it was just Thalia, Annabeth and  Reyna in the room.

"Hey" piper said, entering the room with a moping Jason.
It was awkward, they just stared at each other for a bit.
"Sorry...Reyna and I....I feel horrible" Jason said.

"I know" Piper said as she sat down next to him, "I'm sorry, I feel like it's my fault"

"It's our fault, but mostly mine. I lead you on while I was engaged"
"But I let myself be lead on even after I knew you were engaged"

They stared at each other for a bit.

Piper sighed and sat down next to him. Jason turned away from her.
"Do you want me to stay?" She whispered "you were there for me,let me be there for you"

Jason stared at her, he slowly reached out and brushed a strand of hair from her face. "Not right now Piper, I want to be alone" he said, eyes downcast.

"That's fine" Piper said with a sad smile as she made her way out of the room.
She paused for just a second, "do you hate me ?" She burst out.
She couldn't help it, the nervousness was eating her alive.

Jason turned to look at her and sighed, "No Piper, I don't hate you" he turned back, "there's only one person I hate right now"
