(Mer POV)

I briskly made my way through the building to get to the neurology wing, ignoring the looks I was getting from the nurses. As I got there, I saw Derek talking to one of the nurses. I knew I would have to drop the 'Derek' name and start calling him Dr. Shepherd if I wanted to get over him. "Morning Dr. Shepherd." I mumbled. "Good morning Meredith!" He exclaimed happily. "What do we have today?" I asked. "We have a tumor on the frontal lobe that we're going to remove, and your going to scrub in." He said. My eyes lit up in response. "Really?" I asked. "Yeah Mer. Now, go do pre op and some charting please. Room 19-07. Surgeries at 10 this morning. You have two hours." He said, smiling softly. "Thank you!" I said, going off to grab charts. I went to the nurses station and grabbed a few charts. "Good morning Mr. Peterson. I'm Dr Grey and I'm going to prep you for surgery, if that's okay." I explained. "Of course." He replied. I started him on a course of pre op biotics in his IV. I went back out of the room and decided to do a few charts. I plopped into a chair and went to work.

After an hour, I decided that I should probably eat some breakfast first considering that this was probably going to be a long surgery. I headed towards the cafeteria and grabbed a banana and protein shake and sat down by myself. I read up on the surgery and was startled by someone sitting down next to me. I looked up from my textbook and saw Derek sitting next to me. "Hey." He said softly, his piercing blue eyes sparking. "Hi." I replied with a confused look. "I saw you eating over here by yourself and wanted to give you some company." He explained. "Oh um okay." I stuttered. "So, how have you been?" He asked. "Fine. I'm fine thanks for asking. What about you?" I asked, trying to steer the conversation away from me. "I'm okay. But Mered-." He started. "Well, isn't this cozy? Can I join or are you not into threesomes?" Addison said coldly. "I have patients." I said as I ran off towards the basement where us interns hang out. I don't know what I did for Addison to be so rude to me. She's the one who cheated. She doesn't have a right to be angry. I sigh, watching the clock go by. As I'm day dreaming, I notice Alex come down and plop himself down next to me. "Hey." I said. "Hey Mer, you got any surgeries today?" He asked. "Yeah, I'm scrubbing in with Shepherd on a tumor removal today." I replied. "That's cool, I mean not the part with Shepherd, but the surgery should be fun." He explained. "Yeah. Can I tell you something? Because I reallt need to talk to someone other than Cristina." I asked. "Yeah of course Mer, what's up?" He replied, sounding worried. "Today I was having breakfast in the cafe and reading up on my surgery and Derek comes up and sits down next to me. Why does he keep doing this, flirting with me, and then just acts as if I'm nothing?" I asked. Alex looked at me and said "Mer, I don't know why he's doing that, but it sounds to me like he still loves you. And I know you think I'm wrong, but think about it." "No way. He's with Addison and he's happy. Speaking of which, while we were eating together, she walked up to us and and asked if we were interested in a threesome. She's a bitch, and I don't know what I did to deserve her hating me." I ranted. "Mer, she's jealous. That's it. Now, you better get to your surgery now." Alex explained. "Thanks Alex, I appreciate it. Joes later!" I asked. "You got it." He replied
