Chapter 14

(Mer POV)

"You got it Dr. Grey. Catch the ball again and you'll be cleared for surgery." My physical therapist, Dr. Stills encouraged. I focused on the ball to the best of my abilities and when he threw the ball, I caught it effortlessly. "I did it!" I exclaimed. Derek hugged me and brought me in for a kiss. "Excellent Dr Grey. You're cleared for surgery." Dr Stills said. I threw my hands up in excitement. "Can we go tell the chief?" I begged Derek. "Yeah, let's go." He replied as we walked out of the room hand in hand. I dragged Derek to Richards office and knocked. "Come in!" I heard from the other side of the door. I walked in and greeted him. "Hi chief." I said. "Good afternoon Meredith, Derek. Please sit." He responded. Derek and I sat down. "So, I just wanted to let you know that I've been cleared for surgery and I can be back as soon as possible." I said excitedly. "That's aweosme Meredith! You can come back tomorrow if you wsnt and scrub in with me on an appy. I know it's not much, bu-." I cut him off. "No chief that would be amazing thank you so much!" I practically yelled. "Anytime Meredith. See you tomorrow." He said as I pulled Derek out of the room. I brought him for a deep passionate kiss. I didn't care who was looking. "Thank you. For staying by my side this whole time. I love you." I said into his ear. "I love you too Mer. So much. Now, let's go home and rest up for your first day back." He said and we walked out the doors. We got in the car and we're home in 10 minutes. "I'm so excited. I'm gonna try to sleep." I exclaimed eagerly. "Okay. Goodnight I love you." Derek said as he climbed into bed with me."

When I woke up, I was so excited. "Derek, wake up." I said to him. I got ready so quickly that I forgot to make my coffee, but I didn't need that. I was already too excited. I walked to the scrub room and met with the chief. "Dr Grey." He greeted formally. "Dr. Webber" I replied back. We scrubbed in and walked into the OR only to be met by an eruption of claps and cheers. "Congratulations Dr Grey!" Everyone yelled. "Thank you so much." I replied gratefully. "Dr Grey, would you like to make the first cut?" Dr Webber asked. "Do you even have to ask?" I replied jokingly. Before I made the cut, I looked up in the gallery. I saw Derek, Bailey, and all my intern friends. They all gave me reassuring smiles and I looked back down at the patient and made the first cut.
