"Yes, I will train you to be the warriors in Prince Ali and Princess Aria's mission."
The boys were stunned. They did not expect a girl younger than them being given the responsibility of swordsmanship among others.
Y/N raised an eyebrow at their expression. "What? You don't believe me?"
Yoongi cleared his throat. "I mean, it is not everyday that we see a girl skilled in martial arts."
Y/N slowly walked towards the boys and unsheathed her sword which glinted in the sunlight.
"How about a match? All of you against me." She said, the promise of a challenge clear as day in her voice.
The boys themselves weren't that bad when it came to using their swords, their skills were simply supposed to be polished mote before the final battle. That was the reason they were chosen among all other initiates, to be the most important part of this plan.
Namjoon hesitated before replying, "No hurting or bloodshed."
Y/N smiled. "Done. The person who touches the ground first loses."
Nothing more had to be said. The seven of them were a team and attacked like that. Surrounding her in a circle, they aimed for a vulnerability one by one. Y/N however, was agile and light on her feet. She easily dodged their attacks, as if she already expected them.
Her strategy was simple, Jungkook realized. Tire out the enemy before striking. The boys already had beads of sweat forming on their forehead after around eight minutes of continuous strikes. From the corner of his eye, Jungkook noticed Jimin's strength failing and Y/N took that opportunity to avoid Jin's strike and counter it with tripping Jimin so that he crashed into Jin and they both fell to the ground. The other boys were slightly astounded looking at their mates lying on the ground but before they could recover, Y/N took them down too. Jungkook was the only one who remained.
They moved slowly in a circle, trying to catch on their breaths while the others scurried away to give them more space to fight. This time, Y/N attacked. Her attacks were as strong as her defences, if not more powerful. Jungkook had a hard time keeping up with her unexpected moves, her expression gave nothing away except the mirth swimming in her eyes. She took this as a game, and he knew he was going to lose. He tried one last time, aiming for her neck but her own sword swiftly blocked it. It was only then that he realized the small distance between them and his mind drifted for a moment.
Y/N tried hard to beat his strength, trying to keep her sword from grazing her neck. Jungkook then made the mistake of looking into her eyes, and he saw raw emotions concealed behind the mirth. It overwhelmed him so much, he faltered in his steps and Y/N took advantage of that. Hooking her right leg behind his, she kicked and he fell to the ground with his sword slipping, a loud clank echoing in the otherwise quiet ground.
Taehyung let out a breath he did not know he was holding. Seeing someone so much stronger than Jungkook scared him. He looked at Y/N and he knew there was something about her personality that she kept under lock and key. He saw how her sword stayed unmoving on Jungkook's neck, but her other hand was clenched, trembling. Even with his bubbly personality, he was more observant than any other member of the group.
Y/N cleared her throat and held out a hand for Jungkook to take, surprising him. He took it nevertheless and she helped him stand back on his feet.
"You have ample strength that you can channel into your defences, which you are weak in." She said in an even voice, as if she did not just fight for a good thirteen minutes. Jungkook couldn't find his voice to speak, so he nodded and bowed slightly.
"The rest of you," She glanced over at the group of six boys, "We have to work more on your strength and speed."
With that, she walked away leaving everyone looking at her in awe.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The rest of the afternoon had been given off to them to explore the place. They found a path that led to hot springs on the back of the house and the boys decided to play around a bit there before their rigorous training from the next day. They did not talk much about what had happened earlier, they knew that they were not yet capable to be Aurora's warriors and had to work harder.
They ate dinner in silence. The boys were sitting on either sides of the long table while Y/N and Master Sam sat on the opposite heads of the table. No one dared to start a conversation, the boys were not yet comfortable with the Master's and Y/N's company.
After they were done eating and washing up the dishes, the boys headed back to their rooms to sleep.
Y/N stayed back, standing on the patio as she watched the moon illuminating the dark night and the creatures of the night whispering in the silence.
"Must you really do this? Training these boys?" Master Sam asked, walking over and standing beside her.
"I have no choice, Master," Y/N replied. "I have to help in this dangerous mission to avenge the death of my family."
"But these boys are still very young." He said, his tone slightly exasperated. "We should not involve them in a gruesome war that has nothing to do with them. We cannot play with their lives."
Y/N sighed, her eyes still fixed on the beauty of the moon. "Everyone suffers in a war, Master. Being active or passive in it is a choice. It is my choice to suffer in this war, I have to mend the emotional scar across my heart."
Master Sam listened in silence, fully aware that Y/N had something to fight for and he was amazed at the way she was handling her pain, even when she was young and went through the times no one should have.
"Besides, the boys will face a choice, an ultimatum before the final battle," Y/N continued, her eyes now fixed on Master Sam. "They will have to make the choice of being active or passive."
With a respectful bow towards him, Y/N walked back into the house, leaving the Master with his thoughts and the peace of the night to keep him company.
