POV Auden
"Hi." he starts nervously.
He stands up from the corner bar booth and slides his hands in his pockets. His hair looks a mess, as if he's been running his fingers and tugging at the strands all night.
"Hi." I respond quietly.
Without another word, the two of us take a seat.
"So um-"
"I-"
I choke out a small laugh.
"Sorry, you go first." he offers
I don't know how to go about this. I can sit here and raise my voice, speak over him, blow up, and let out all the anger I've kept inside of me. Or I can hear him out... that is what I signed up for. I think.
I sigh, "Harry, as much as I'd love to start over and spend the rest of summer with you and live happily ever after. I can't-"
"But why not?" interrupts.
"I'm not finished."
He swallows hard at my sudden coldness and nods apologetically.
His eyes lock with mine and his green orbs are practically pleading with me begging for forgiveness. They look dark, not nearly as bright as they usually are... they look sorry.
I mentally smack myself. Focus Auden, focus. Don't get caught up in his charm.
"I don't want to be someone you think you can just walk all over, break, and expect me to come crawling back. I want and deserve respect. What you did was not fair and simply cannot be justified and it was some of the worst pain I've ever had to deal with."
"And I'm here to give you your long deserved explanation."
I scoff and raise my eyebrows. I'm not being rude. I just don't have time for his bullshit.
"I'm so sorry. So so sorry you had to deal with...with all of it. It sucked. There's nothing I can to do to make up for that and I understand that. But there's something I need to tell you." he finishes his sentence his words suddenly coming out more confident.
"What you saw at the VMAs... is not what you think."
I roll my eyes again. I should leave.
This is dumb. And I'm really not in the mood for his excuse. The old Auden probably would have cried at even speaking of that horrible night, but I'm much stronger than her.
However, using my newfound strength I think it would be best to show maturity and just bite my tongue.
"Taylor kissed me. I didn't kiss her back. I silly as it sounds, I mean it. I wasn't interested despite what you've read or been told. I had no intention of sleeping with her, talking to her, rekindling any sort of relationship, getting back with her, and sure as hell ever kissing her." he counts on his fingers as rattles off these things.
"She pulled that shit so the press would see us together, eat it up- which they did, and eventually get back at you. I swear I even tried pushing her off but she had her arms wrapped around my head and I didn't want to forcefully hurt her. Take it or leave it but I've spent a year waiting to tell you the truth. And you are absolutely right you deserve respect and I'm sorry I disrespected you. But it's been a year and it's about time I man up and make myself explain this to you."
My mouth simply hangs wide open. What. The. Fuck.
So many thoughts rush through my head. I am an idiot. I really convinced myself this man would cheat on me.
