A voice stirred Levi into consciousness. It was deep, familiar, normal, a voice he recognized but couldn't quite place. He opened his eyes, an apricot landscape spread out as far as the eye could see, barren but brightly lit. He heard the voice again, this time a little clearer. He was sitting, and with no trouble, stood up to find the owner of the hum. He couldn't help but wonder where he was, and if such a place as this even existed on Earth. But he didn't have to question for long.

The voice sounded again, clearer than a bell, directly in front of him. Levi's vision came into focus, and through the peachy void, he saw someone who made his heart freeze in his chest.

A tall man, combed blonde hair, eyes the color of a stormy sky, stood facing him, dressed in the Scouting uniform. He seemed real, humane, but Levi knew he was not. For a dead man could not be human.

"Levi... there you are."

"Erwin..."

"Surprised to see me? I bet. Your face right now is priceless."

Levi only now realized his jaw had dropped, and snapping out of his momentary shock, the man regained his composure. He saluted his old friend wholeheartedly, the typical hand-over-heart notion deemed worthy of respect.

"Commander."

"Oh, please. Cut it out. You know that's shit as much as I do."

Levi grinned, then made his way closer to the shadow of his past.

"I see you've been busy... tell me, how does it feel to cuddle and touch my sister's-"

"Now see here, you old fart..."

The playfully bickered back and forth for a minute, then stopped to chuckle at their immaturity.

"Levi... is she happy?"

"I don't know. I think so. I've been doing my best, and always will."

"...Are you happy?"

"More so than I have ever been in my entire life."

"Will you always protect her?"

"With my life. Always."

Erwin stopped, smiled, then walked back from where he had come, out into the abyss. If he had wanted to, Levi knew he could not follow.

"I'm glad. Thank you... Levi."

A/n: I love Levi and Erwin's relationship so much. Honestly. Too bad that we didn't get to see more of their moments together...
