"Hey Aria it's Sarah, I need a time to meet tomorrow so we can discuss the papers okay? She barely left anything behind but hopefully we can find something. Call me."
The voicemail sounded through the speaker. Aria sighed and decided she would call Sarah back later.

She walked into the kitchen to get something to eat but heard the phone ring again. A little irritated she answered,

"Aria it's me I don't know if you got my message or anything-" Sarah's spoke,

"Um yeah I did I was about to call you, sorry" Aria replied,

"Oh okay, so what time should we meet at my office?"

"I don't know, maybe lunch or something, around one?"

"Yeah sure that fits perfectly I'll see you tomorrow. Also again it was a lovely service and I'm sorry for your-"

"Mhmm" Aria interrupted, hanging up quickly. She set the phone down on the side and gave up on dinner, dragging her feet to the bedroom and falling asleep after she flopped onto the mattress.

A few hours later she stirred a little to hear Mark opening the door, setting his keys aside and turning on the TV.

Soon after he came into the bedroom and tugged the blanket off of her, lying down on the bed,

"I get it if you've had a bad day, but can I at least have the blanket back?" She mumbled, earning a lazy grunt and silence.

Giving up, she went into the lounge and dragged a comforter back in so she could fall asleep again.

Mark had moved to London a while ago with Aria and her mother but due to recent events she was considering moving back to New York even after that whole alien thing that had happened there.

Her mother had died a few weeks ago and the funeral was yesterday, only she and her mom's lawyer 'Sarah' had shown up. Not even mark.

The service was - frankly - awful. Aria couldn't say anything nice for there was nothing nice to say. Her mother barely talked to her and when she did it was mostly to remind her of all the things gone wrong in her life. She would come home late, clear out their supply of alcohol (which usually started an argument with Mark) then sleep in until four before finally leaving for the bar.

Even Aria'a relationship with her mother in her childhood was pretty bad. Always putting the blame on her since Aria's father was gone and there was no one else to take out her frustration on. There were screaming matches all the time and comments on her appearance or the way she ate.

Overall Aria couldn't help but feel relieved that her mother was gone no matter how much she felt guilty about those feelings. and that despite her mother's abusive behaviour, she still quit college for her, got a shitty job for her and did all that she could just to earn barely if not any speck of approval from her.

Lying in bed next to Mark reminded her of the funeral and that he hadn't been there. She was still pissed despite her own longing not to be there.

Honestly Aria didn't even know what to think of Mark anymore. When they first started dating it had been nice, he would come home from an actual Job and at least greet her when he walked through the door.

But over time he became cold and distant, Until the point where their relationship now was just toxic. But she stayed anyway. She didn't know why but she did. She guessed it was because she just needed someone there. Not to talk to or a shoulder to cry on, just as long as someone was at least there.
