Aria awoke in the middle of the night, not to a nightmare this time, but to her cousin and her friend Darcy knocking in the door, soaking wet from the pouring rain outside.

"Jane?" She asked, standing aside to let them in. "Shouldn't you be on the other side of the world right now?"

"Long story." Her cousin responded, taking off her raincoat and hanging it up on the coat stand. "I know it's unexpected but do you think we could stay here awhile? I know you're in a tough spot right now with aunt- I mean your mom, but we don't have anywhere else to go"

Aria looked from Jane to Darcy, running her hand through her hair and remembering last night. She couldn't just let them in and put them at risk, what would happen if Mark came back? But then again they had no place to go.

Her mother and Mark were gone for now, so she supposed there would be a spare room.

"Fine, the guest room is upstairs, but one of you will have to sleep on a camp bed-"

"Dibs not it!" Darcy said putting her hand in the air, Jane rolled her eyes.

Aria went to the kitchen and made some tea.

"So what brings you to London?" She asked them both,

"You remember Erik? He said he was onto something over here and then when our plane landed we called him and he'd completely vanished. So we needed a place to stay until he shows up and tells us what the deal is."

"And also she needs to get her mind off-" Darcy started to say but trailed off.

"Off of what?" Aria asked,

"Nobody, some guy who just up and left suddenly." Jane said abruptly.

"Oh, well he sounds like an asshole. Next time you see him call me, I can finally put my knife collection to good use" she chuckled, but Jane and Darcy remained silent. Apparently dark sarcasm was not their humour.

"So Aria, where's Mark?"

"Do you guys wanna watch something?" She changed the subject awkwardly, gesturing towards the Tv remote.

"Umm.. No we should get to bed, I hope you don't mind all of the scientific equipment though, I don't know why I brought it with me" Jane said,

"Not at all, consider this your own house while you stay here" Aria lied, she didn't want the equipment here when she was trying to get rid of Mark, but Jane was her cousin after all.

"Thanks" she responded, heading up the stairs to the spare room.

"So what's the deal with you and your cousin? I thought you'd be a lot bitchier from what i've heard about you." Darcy said, turning to her,

"Don't get used to it." She responded with a smirk, and Darcy quickly followed Jane up the stairs.

"So you're Jane's intern?" Aria asked Darcy about a week after they had settled in, she hadn't heard anything from Mark so that was good news at least.

"You could say that, yeah. By the way where is Jane?" She looked around, putting her breakfast bowl in the sink.

"She said she was going on a date or something, a guy named Richard apparently"
