"So what else can you do besides tearing robots apart?" Wanda asked, tilting her head to the side,
"I don't really know.. I only learned these powers a little while ago and didn't actually think they'd be this strong." Aria replied, looking down at her hands.
"Someone taught you you're powers?" Wanda leaned forward.
They were sat on the edge of her bed, a 1960s sitcom playing quietly on the tv.
"We'll yes, someone not from around here.. she only taught me levitation, I didn't know it could be used to tear things apart though. What else can you do with your powers?"
"Not much either, at least not much I know.."
Wanda replied,
"To be truthful, they scare me. I know they scare others and it's grown to scare me too. Sometimes people tell me it's a gift, but at this point it's more of a burden. Pietro was the only one who wasn't scared of me.." she trailed off, staring blankly at the void before blinking away tears.
"Hey," Aria took her hand. "You shouldn't have to be scared of something you can't control, or apologise to other people. Gift or not, it's never a burden. Pietro would be nothing but proud."
"Thank you, Aria" she smiled warmly, wiping her eyes and squeezing her hand a little.
"So what are you exactly? No ordinary human can dismember metal robots with just a few lessons"
"Not even a few, I only had one.. I guess I must be the first" she half smiled, also staring into the void.
Was Wanda right? Was she just normal? Frigga had said anyone could learn magic as long as they were in Asgard but what if there was something more to that?
Nevertheless, Aria bid Wanda goodnight and stepped outside the room.
The compound was pretty easy to navigate. Aria quickly found her room and crawled under the cold duvet of her new bed.
She wiggled a little in discomfort at the cotton sheets against her skin.
Jesus Aria don't tell me you're too much of a snob now that you can't appreciate sheets that aren't silk.
She thought, and chuckled to herself before burying her head into the pillow a little and drifting off.
•
Waking up early, she opened the curtains to reveal it was still midnight. Guess time worked differently on Earth compared to Asgard.
She stretched a little and yawned, wandering around the room for a bit and exploring the en suite bathroom. Although not as grand as her room in Asgard, it was still better than anything she'd had before that.
She laid back down on the bed, staring at the ceiling and reaching her hand down to grab a-
Oh right. She forgot the secret books hidden under the bed were on a different realm.
Aria sighed and sat up once again, deciding to have a shower.
When she emerged from the steam filled bathroom, she walked over to her new wardrobe and opened it.
No fine Asgardian dresses, or flowing blouses and leather pants.
Instead there was a load of breathable leather-like unitards, obviously used for fighting and could withstand harsh attacks.
She picked out one that she assumed would fit her and slipped it on.
It was surprisingly comfortable despite how skin tight it was.
Aria was just about to reach for her door handle, only to be interrupted by a knock.
"Uh- Come in" She said. The door opened to reveal Steve Rogers.
"Oh good, your up early. How was your first day at the compound?" He asked
"A little weird compared to where I stayed before but overall pretty swell" she replied, crossing her arms and leaning on the doorframe.
"I see your also suited up, great. How would you feel about trying out some training this morning?"
She raised her eyebrows, "Umm sure?"
"Good, follow me."
He turned on his heel and stride down the corridor, Aria had to jog to keep up.
"So, meal times are provided as well as a monthly government pay, you'll have to buy your own clothes except suits. In fact Tony's making you one upstairs as we speak."
"Wait what?"
"You're an Avenger now, Dean. You get to look like one too." He smiled.
"We don't have specific times for breakfast or lunch but we usually eat dinner as a team, and nothing fancy or anything just sitting around in the lounge."
Aria nodded,
"So after our training I'll show you the rest of the compound and the grounds, then watch a movie what do you say?"
"Sounds great! Is there nothing else to do then?"
"Well when a mission comes up we usually drop what we're doing and go help, if there's nothing to do then we can spend that time on leisurely activities."
"Okay cool, just to clarify ; breakfast and lunch anytime, dinner in the lounge, drop what we're doing for missions, meals provided, government salary, suit provided but buy my own clothes."
"You catch on fast kid, that's good. Okay here we are." He came to a stop in front of a glass door. Inside was a very spacious room with around 5 professional training mats and a collection of gear on the side of the left wall.
He opened the door and allowed Aria to step inside.
"How do you find it?" He asked,
"Intimating, but looks pretty cool." She smirked.
"Then lets begin."
•
"Jesus- that was- intense.." Aria struggled to say, panting between breaths and holding her hand against her heart.
"Relax kid you did fine, especially for your first day.. there was one thin- actually never mind" he replied, turning away to grab his water bottle.
"What is it?"
"..Well you blocked all my attacks perfectly and you had a fighting technique i've never seen before. Where'd you learn it?"
"Uh- here and there I guess.." she chuckled nervously, a put forming in her stomach as she remembered the fighting lessons she took with Loki.
"Are you sure?.. Because ive never seen that level of skill from a Sokovian citizen." He asked, turning his head around and approaching her.
"I hope you know the Avengers have many enemies. Enemies prepared to send anyone in to get what they want. And we know exactly how to deal with them." He was very close now, and she did not care for it.
"Look Mr Rogers." She sighed and tilted her head, "i've had a very tiring few days. My.. friend taught me how to fight, okay? And you should think before you go around accusing very tired people with complicated situations of being enemies to the government and the goddamn avengers. If your going to threaten me you'll need more evidence than a hunch based on my level of training. I'm not your enemy "Mr red-white-and-blue" so don't try to make me one."
She stared hard into his eyes, not blinking.
He smiled and started to chuckle to himself.
"What's so funny?" She asked, furrowing her brows and watching him retreat back to his water bottle.
"You've got spirit kid, glad to have you on the team." He smiled, "come on, let's get some breakfast.
