hi im kinda back but im not back so just enjoy this for now (see author's note on the bottom for more info)

miya atsumu was always striving for the very best. he wanted to be the very best and never stopped for anything. you knew that your relationship was hindering his goals and he put it on hold during nationals. despite this, you still went along with it.

what the hell was it about him that made you so attracted to him? was it his attractive features? atsumu is undoubtedly attractive but that wasn't it either. perhaps it was his charm? maybe.

you followed him nonetheless, all the way to nationals. the guy despite what most think, wasn't a player who went around sleeping with everyone. he's very serious when it comes to things and volleyball was his life.

everything came second when it came to volleyball. even, you.

when they lost, you recalled seeing the despair in his eyes.

you rushed to him after the match, hoping to catch him alone so the two of you could talk. despite him often pushing the relationship aside for the sake of volleyball, you always stood by his side.

"atsumu!"

you noticed his head turn towards you, he clearly was fuming. it made you flinch a bit, backing away. "what?" he spat at you, clearly angry.

you backed away slowly, taking a step backwards. you can feel how intense he was feeling at the moment. the tension was suffocating.

"i-i just... wanted to make sure you're okay..." you softly said, reaching out to him in concern. he stood there blankly, staring at you before a sigh left his lips. "i appreciate it... but now is not the time okay...?" he pulled you in for a moment, hugging you tightly.

you still felt that something was off but didnt choose to bring it up right then. the two of you said your goodbyes and you left without another word.

weeks passed and barely any exchanged occurred between the two of you. atsumu was still dreading the loss at nationals and you decided to let him cope (as he often pushed you away when he needed to be alone).

it was weighing on you. the emotional baggage and stress that the relationship was falling apart.

you started sleeping less, kept up by the thoughts of how and why everything was happening. why wasn't this working out? how is this going to end? when was this going to end?

the questions lingered in your mind, every passing day. there was less and less contact between the two of you.

it hurt. so you occasionally reached out with a simple text of 'hi' or 'whats up' and he would always give the same response.

'meh, alright.'

was that how he saw the relationship? just alright? was it your fault for not being up to his standards?

another week passed with only two exchanges between the two of you. one was during school when you had to drop some papers off for kita and he happened to be there with him.

the other, was during the late hours after school.

classes had ended and you were on cleaning duty that day. so you stayed late, scrubbing the floors and windows to ensure everything was clean.

the thought had crossed your mind that maybe- just maybe atsumu was waiting for you.

a sigh left your lips as you picked up the bucket and towel you were using and headed to the washrooms.

and that's where you had your final interaction with atsumu.

tears of rage flooded your eyes as his blonde hair came into view. his calloused hands holding the face of another female student. his lips pressed against hers. her hands reached up to touch his and it continued.

you don't know how long you stood there before you dropped the bucket. the sound of the plastic hitting the floor split the two apart. atsumu's eyes quickly met your tearful ones. his eyes widened as you turned away and started to sprint out of the washroom.

you kept running, unable to escape the image in your mind. your legs were tired but kept going and carried you far away. choked sobs came out as tears fell from your face like a waterfall.

"fucking hell-" you cursed, angrily collapsing to your knees once you made it back to the home room. you quickly gathered your materials and tried to leave the room before atsumu stopped you at the door.

"(y-y/n) please- w-wait!"

you angrily shoved him aside, glaring at him. he tried to grab your hand but you smacked it away. "fuck off!" you angrily shouted at him. atsumu flinched, backing away.

"i-i... i can explain t-this (y/n)-" he pleaded before you turned around, fully glaring up at him. "i said, fuck off." he visibly gulped, taking a step backwards.

you stormed out of the school with dried tear streaks down your face. your eyes and nose red from the crying. atsumu stood there alone in the hall, his throat parched and closed up.

this is what he gets for chasing fire.

hello friends <3 thank you all for the 74k+ reads; i know it's been a while since i posted anything.

my love for haikyuu comes and goes so i dont really know when ill make a complete comeback for this book.

in any case, its likely going to be on permanent hiatus except for the occasional updates like this when i have a spark of motivation.

i know a lot of you want more content and i wish i can put more out but i simply don't have the interest to write any haikyuu stuff until i get my motivation back

i went through a huge haikyuu phase during the summer, hyping up for the fourth season but even now as the season is coming out, i lost that motivation thanks to the hiatus it went on.

so i apologize for not posting :( sorry to let you guys down.

again, this book is basically on
permanent hiatus;

however, i do appreciate all of the comments + votes i have received for this book, it's a true joy to see that people like reading my one shots haha.

again, thanks again my friends <3 stay well and safe out there !

until next time :)
