I see a flashlight beam in the distance, "Help!" I say in a horse raspy voice, "Help" I repeat, "Jade!" I hear Daryl yell. I gotta get up, I'm not vulnerable, Get up Jade, I give myself a mental pep talk before forcing myself up and leaning against a tree for support, I try to walk forward but lose my balance and fall, I don't even try to stop myself, I just fall and roll over, "Jade?" Daryl asks, "What happened to ya?" he says scooping me in his arms, "Do-don't for-forget my bo-bow" I studder from the cold, he smirks, reaches down and scoops it up, then carries me back to camp.
"Hey guys!" Daryl yells, "Oh God, Daryl what happened?" Lori asks, "If I knew that I'd tell ya, I just found her like this, just layin' in the mud bleedin and almost in hypothermia, Believe me I'm just as stunned as you are" he says to Lori, "Get er' by the fire" Daryl says handing me over to Rick, "Where are you going?" Rick shouts, I feel his stomach move when he yells, "Just get er' by the fire, I'll be out in a minute" Daryl yells. Rick sets me next to the fire, I see Shane giving me a death stare and then he puts a finger to his lips in a hushing manor, I look away and focus my eyes on the open flame of the fire, Why can't I be that free? So open, so beautiful.
"I have some killer ass pain killers, take these" Daryl says handing me 2 white pills, "I can wrap her stomach up with this wrap I have from my 1st aide kit, it'll help her ribs heal" Lori says, "I don't need it, I just need some rest" I say, "Jade, stop being so god damn stubborn and let us help you" Amy says, I'm in complete and udder shock, Amy never talks like that. I didn't realize her and Andrea were here, I swallow the knot forming in my throat and nod, "Ok, Daryl sit her up" Lori says, he carefully wraps his hands under my arm before lifting me up, Lori quickly wraps me up, I wince and bite down on my tongue to refrain from screaming, when their done I thank them and stand up to walk over to my tent, Daryl tries to grab me, "Stop, I can take care of myself" I say and start limping to our tent.
I lean against a nearby tree and throw up, Daryl rushes to my side, "I'm fine" I insist, "No the hell yer not. Stop lyin' I can help" he says and wraps my arm around his neck. He practically carries me to our tent where he carefully lays me down. I cover myself up, he goes to walk to his cot, "What are you doing?" I ask, "Going to sleep" he says, "Over there?" I tease, "Would you prefer I slept on the moon?" he jokes, "No. I'd pr-refer you slept next to me and kept me warm" I stutter from the cold, he turns around and searches me face for any sign of sarcasm, when he finds none he struts over and gently crawls in next to me. He rests on his elbow while I lay on my back, we stare into each others eyes, he slowly leans down and we kiss, butterflies are dancing in my stomach. He pulls away, "Jade?" he asks, "Yeah?" I ask, "Would ya like to be ma girl?" he asks, "Of course" I say and smile, he kisses me, I smile through the kiss. He cuddles up next to me with his face in the nape of my neck, I grab his hand and pull it over my waist and intertwine our fingers before drifting into a deep sleep.
{Daryl's P.O.V}
I hear her light snores and know she's sleeping, I cuddle closer to er, I can't believe she asked me to sleep next to er, that was not something I can honestly say I was expecting. I was so preoccupied in my thoughts I forgot about what had happened, why the hell was she beat up like that? Better yet who did it? I was surely going to get to the bottom of this, but first I need to protect er and let er heal. She needs to rest, knowing her she won't though, she'd be up by morning and doing something to make time go by. I let my thoughts wander for awhile, then I decide it's time for sleep. I shut my eyes and breathe in her scent.
{Jade's P.O.V.}
I wake up to the beautiful sunrise shining through our tent, I'm craddled against Daryl's chest, I carefully get up, I wince at the pain that explodes all over my body but I shrug it off and push myself to feel past it, get dressed and head out. "Hey Jade, do you know anything about cars?" Carl asks running up to me, "Yeah I know a few things, why?" I ask, "Dale and Glenn are trying to figure out what's wrong with the RV, so we can leave tommorrow" he says, "Can you help?" he adds, "Sure thing little man" I say and ruffle his hair, "Show me the way" I add, he grabs my hand and leads me over to the RV.
I limp my way over and find Dale looking inside the RV and Glenn is leaning against the side holding a tool box, "I heard you needed some help" I say, Dale looks up at me and winces, "Jeeez, I get it I look like shit, you guys make it seem like I'm some fucken alien when you look at me" I say, "Mind the language please" Lori says politely, I give a slight nod as my apology and she continues doing laundry, "Let me look under the hood?" I ask, "Ok, but I don't think your gonna do much help, no offense" Dale jokes, "None taken" I joke back and grab the flashlight and a screwdriver, I already know what's wrong and I've only been looking for less than 3 seconds, "It's your radiator hose, do you have any duct tape?" I ask pulling my head back, he hands me some, I wrap it up, "It won't last very long but it should keep us going a while" I say and hand Glenn the tape, his jaw is hanging slightly open, "What? Confused?" I ask, "Very" he jokes, "Well, let's leave it simple, its called books and practice, which reminds me I want to go speak to Lori, you guys need anything else?" I ask, Dale shakes his head, I spin on my heal and go to leave, I gotta talk to Lori then I'm going to go hunting for some alone time.
"Hey Lori?" I ask walking up to her, "Yeah?" she asks, "Just a quick question and I'll be out of your hair" I say, she nods, "Go ahead" she says, "Are you educating the kids? I was planning on going on a run today, and I was gonna pick up a few books and things" I say, "That would be great, Carol and I have been teaching them from what little books we have" she says, "Ok, I'll see what I can grab" I say and with that I smile and walk back to my tent to retrieve my bow and quiver, then I'm off into the woods.
