Zap!

The Doctor, Max and Sophie all stared in shock as they saw a blast of light shoot out of one of the windows below them and hit the president on the hovercraft.

The President fell off the hovercraft and down below, not on the island, into the abyss below.

Max put his hands over his mouth. "Someone just assassinated the president."

"Did you see," the Doctor bit his lip. "That shot came from inside this building, we must have passed the Assassin on our way up."

The Doctor ran across the top floor of the abandoned factory, past another two shocked couples and down to the floor below them.

He creeped between the sheets of plastic and the machinery to the window where there was an abandoned sniper rifle and a duffel bag. He looked out of the window.

"Perfect trajectory," the Doctor noticed. "This was planned."

"By you perhaps!" A group of officers appeared behind him, all carrying guns. "You just assassinated our President!"

"For crying out loud!" The Doctor exclaimed.

The Leader of the officers walked forwards with futuristic handcuffs and put them on the Doctor.

"You are under arrest for assassination of the president," the officer told the Doctor. "You will be tried in the court of Cloudy Heights and if you are found guilty. You will be executed."

"How lovely," the Doctor gave a half hearted smile as Max and Sophie arrived.

"Doctor?" Sophie was confused as they marched the Doctor away.

"They must have caught him taking a look at the crime scene," Max sighed. "And thought it was him."

"But we were literally with him when the shot was fired!" Sophie exclaimed.

"They'll take him to court and try to find him guilty," Max explained to Sophie. "We have to go on the stand and explain why it isnt him but if that doesnt work, we'll have to find out who the actual assassin is."

"Did you see?" Vera hurried over to join them. "They just arrested the drunk guy, did he do it?"

"Where the hell have you been Vera?" Max looked out the window at the panicked crowd below. "Of course he didnt do it."

"The assassin was probably long gone by the time the Doctor got here," Sophie looked out the window with Max. "It could be any one of those people."

"Just confess!" A detective screamed at the Doctor over an interrogation table. "We caught you red handed with the weapon used to assassinate the President."

"I ran over to see if I could catch the killer," the Doctor yelled back. "Sorry for trying to help."

"I'm gonna take you to court," the detective tried to calm himself down. "I'm gonna get you ass executed."

"The judge will see sense even if you dont," the Doctor tried to relax. "God, humans are so ungrateful. If saved all of you so many times I cant even count and I get accused for assassination."

"Why do you say human like you arent one," the detective raised an eyebrow.

"I wonder," the Doctor muttered under his breath.

"That's it," the detective grabbed the Doctor by the collar and dragged him out of the interrogation room. "I'm taking you to your cell, have a nice sleep because you're getting up early, to go to COURT."

The next morning, the Doctor had to do exactly that. Get up early and go to court.

The Courtroom was large, had a smooth marble floor and old fashioned torches hung up on the wall.

Once the Doctor arrived he was asked if he wanted someone to defend him in court which he refused.

He would be defending himself. He called his two witnesses Max and Sophie and was allowed 5 minutes to speak with them.

"Doctor," Max greeted him and gave him a hug. "We've been worrying all night, we had to stay at Vera's house."

"It stank of granny," Sophie complained.

"We heard they're getting the best prosecutor in the business," Max worried. "They'll execute you if they find you guilty."

"I know, I know," the Doctor waved his hand. "But unless they forge evidence, they dont have enough to pass the execution."

"We dont have to worry then," Sophie put on a fake smile and put her thumbs up.

"Court!" The booming voice of the newly arrived judge echoed around the courtroom. The jury came in and all sat down. "This court is in session."

A woman burst into the room holding a large binder of evidence. She slammed in down at the prosecutor's side and sat down.

The Doctor sat down in the defendants chair and everyone else sat down in their allocated seats.

"All will rise," the Judge shouted as everyone stood up. "Welcome to my courtroom. As this is a highly public case all mainstream media have been kept outside and extra security have been put on guard. The first two days of this court will show the prosecutions case. The last two will show the defenses. The defendant has chosen to defend himself rather than use a court appointed lawyer. If the court find the defendant guilty, he will be executed, if he is found not guilty, all charges will be dropped. The prosecutor will now present her case."

"Thank you Judge Maynell," the prosecutor smiled and then gave the Doctor a dirty look. "Today I will prove why the Doctor, is guilty. We were all watching today, the President gliding past, waving happily. We all heard the shot fired. The President dies. All because of this man."

"Objection!" The Doctor yelled.

"Overalled," Judge Maynell didnt make eye contact with the Doctor.

"Not only was the defendant found by the weapon, in the place where the shot was fired, we have found forensic evidence that places his prints on the weapon," the Prosecutor explained.

"OBJECTION!" The Doctor yelled.

"On what grounds," the Judge gave in and asked.

"That evidence has been planted!" The Doctor stared at the prosecutor's notes from the distance. "I said that the only way you could execute me for this murder was by planting evidence, now look what's happening."
