Ichigo was kicked out of his duties as substitute soul reaper and the seretei for his constant involvement in their greatest catastrophes (even tho he resolves them and they would happened most likely regardless if he was there or not) not only that they punished him by placing multiple sealing hado's and other techniques. The seal were to suppress and/or weaken his spiritual powers.
Shiro who was a victim of those seal became fed up of all their bullshit and took his King and brother to hueco Mundo where he turned into a semi Hollow. He gets noticed by the other Hollows and a certain group who thought to have been gone or scattered to winds. He gets taken to Las noches where through Ichigo, Shiro explained their circumstances. He is allowed to stay with them as the hollows understand their situation and think of their former opponents as dunderhead's and scumbags.
Ichigo had one power however that he had never used before.
