(A/N Modern Descriptions Historic setting mostly because I have no freaking clue was the real A. Ham looked like. Or Eliza. Or Angelica. Come to think of it I only know what Washington really looked like. Everyone else is the cast. Well anyway enjoy)

"I swear it won't happen again. Just let me stay!" Alexander pleaded

"Go home, Alexander. That's an order, from your commander."

"But sir-"

Washington looked him dead in the eyes. "Go. Home."

Alexander trudged to his tent, which he shared with Laurens, Lafayette and Mulligan. "What'd he say?" Laurens asked.

"I'm dismissed." Alexander sighed. "What will Eliza say when she learns I lost my job?"

Lafayette glanced at the others. "I-I'm sure you'll find somewhere, mon ami."

Alexander shook his head as he packed what little he had. "This was my chance, my shot! I can't believe I just threw it away..."

Laurens put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Alexander. I should have given you more deniability and not made you my second."

"It's not your fault, Laurens. I wanted to duel Lee, too. Still do, in fact. And- and Eliza and I'll figure something out. I just... I feel bad. She came from such grandeur, and now she has... me."

"Don't say that Alex, you're a wonderful husband." Laurens said, then blushed. "But, you know, not like that..."

Alexander laughed. "Thanks, Laurens." He looked around the tent and sighed. "I should be going. I want to be home by dark. Maybe even make it home in time for supper." He smiled sadly at his friends. "Stay safe, guys."

"Bye, Alex."

"Farewell, mon ami."

"Tell 'Liza I say hi!"

"I will, Hercules." Alexander set off for New York. Only fifteen miles... on foot... he'd be fine.

Eliza stared out the window. No... it couldn't be...

She raced out the front door and leaped into Alexander's arms. "Y-You're home!" she cried.

"Yeah..."

She pulled away. "Alexander, what's wrong?"

"I got fired. I helped Laurens duel Lee-"

"What?"

"And I was told not to, so, I was told to go home." He finished. "I'm so sorry."

"Oh, Alex... it'll be okay. You can find another job. You'll need to. I'm... Alexander, I'm pregnant." Eliza smiled, overjoyed. Alexander and her would be having a child!

Alexander smiled too. "How long have you known?"

"A month or so!" She replied happily.

"Eliza! You should have told me!" He exclaimed. "What if I'd- what if I'd died, or something, because I wasn't careful. Oh, I should never have-"

"Hey." She said softly, yet powerfully. "So long as you come home at the end of the day, that would be enough." he melted into her arms. "And as long as you don't do any more duels."

He laughed. "I swear it won't happen again."

Eliza ran to his bedside. "No!"

He tried to sit up. "'Liza..."

"Alexander, no, you can't leave me."

"I-I'm sorry." he said. Somewhere behind her, Angelica had arrived.

"You said you wouldn't duel. You swore to me!" She sobbed. Angelica knelt by her side (it was a very low bed) and put her hand on her shoulder.

"I'm sorry." he repeated.

"Just stay alive, that would be enough." she insisted.

"I don't think I can..." he said. "It hurts... it's infected, they said."

Just like Phillip.

"Please."

He laid down, not dead yet, but his strength quickly being sapped.

"I'm so sorry, Eliza, for all I never became."

"You don't have to be sorry. You were enough, Alexander."

With that he smiled. "Goodbye, 'Liza." He sighed softly.

"Alexander?"

no response.

"Alexander!"

Still no response.

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Hamilton."

She screamed, and dove into Angelica's arms. He was supposed to respond, he was supposed to say something, anything. He was supposed to pick up his quill and keep writing and skip dinner with her but she wouldn't care, not anymore.

Him coming home alive was enough. He was supposed to stay alive for her.

He wasn't supposed to duel.

He swore it wouldn't happen again.

He swore to her.
