Another Life - A Stellaride and Shaveride story

Part 16

Two days later (Shift day)
Severide's point of view
Stella and I had just gotten to the firehouse for shift. Stella was acting lieutenant on truck for 2 weeks while Brett and Casey were on their honeymoon, she was nervous about it but I reminded her that she'll do great.

I knocked on the door and Chief waved for me to come in. "you wanted to see me chief?" I said  as I walked in. "Yeah. These were on my desk this morning when I came in. You know anything about this?" Chief said handing me some papers. I read the papers and at the top it said Resignation from Firehouse 51 and in the name spot it read Leslie Shay. I could not believe what I was reading. "I knew nothing about this chief. Was there anything else with this?" I asked him. "Yeah there was. Here these are addressed to you." He handed me an envelope and on it the name read Kelly. I took the envelope, thanked chief, and walked out of his office. I went to my office and just sat there thinking about the news chief just told me.

Stella's point of view
I had just walked into the bunk room and saw Kelly sitting in his office. He looked deep in his thoughts so I was going to pop in and see what was up. I knocked then opened it and said "Hey babe. You alright?" He was so deep in his thoughts he didn't even hear me. "Kelly.. Kelly" He finally snapped out of it. "Hey babe. What's up?" he said. "You alright? I called you a couple of times" I said. "Here come in close the door" he said while handing me a paper. I read the resignation paper that had Shay's name on it. "She left this too" He said handing me an envelope. "You haven't opened it yet?" I asked "No. I don't know if I even want too." He said. "You should. Just to make sure she's okay and that she's safe." I told him. He said he would think about it, I gave him a kiss and walked into the common room.

Severide's point of view
I was thinking about what Stella said so I decided to open the letter and started reading:

'Dear Kelly, I am sorry for leaving you again, I just couldn't stay. I wasn't fitting in, I think what I need is change. I can't expect things to go back to the way they were so I'm just going back home to Louisiana. I have my parents and sister there and I can get my job back at one of the firehouses there. Please tell Brett I am sorry for leaving her, I just couldn't. I wanted to thank you and Stella for welcoming me in and letting me stay in your house. You have an amazing wife and a beautiful family Kelly. I wish you guys the best of luck. I am sorry for any pain I am causing you or have caused you. I love you always. - Shay.'

I teared up reading this but there was nothing I could do to bring her back, once she's gone and has her mind made up she's gone.

Nobody's point of view
It was the end of shift and Stella and Kelly just had gotten home with Leslie. Once they got cleaned up Kelly let Stella read the note. After Stella read it she asked "You want to talk about it?" "I mean there is not really anything to talk about. She's gone and that's just that. We just gotta move on." Kelly said. "Alright. How about I make up some lunch for us?" Stella asked. "Sounds good." Severide said.

2 Weeks Later
Kelly's point of view
It was Brett and Casey's first shift back after their honeymoon so we were all surprising them when they walked in. "How was it?" I asked them as everyone was settling down. "Amazing! It was so beautiful and relaxing. It felt good to just get away." Casey said. "Awesome I am happy for you guys!" Severide said. "Thanks Kelly!" Brett said. Brett had a new partner on ambo and they were working out great so far.

We had just gotten back from Brett and Casey's welcome back party at Molly's and Stella and I were just watching a movie on the couch with Leslie. These past couple of day I have been thinking about Shay but I know that if she wanted to be here she would be. But I have both of my girls here and that's all I need.
