You had no idea where to start looking for the kid's parents. Also, you didn't even know the kid's name. He was a pretty average kid; brown hair and brown eyes. It would be kind of awkward to just go around shouting 'hey anyone lost a kid today?'. So, what to do? You went around the houses near where the crime scene was, asking if any of them had known where the kid came from. No one seemed to know. You growled in frustration, an angry expression on your face. You were getting fed-up with this impossible task.
You were pulled out of your thoughts quickly. "Excuse me!" A small child, around the age of the boy came up to you and yanked on your sleeve.
"Geez kid easy! This outfit is new. What do you want?" You responded. You looked at her and realized she was crying. You felt a pang of guilt for sounding rude to her.
"W-well, I was supposed to be looking after younger brother, but he went away with a lady who gave him candy! I told him not to go with her but she was scary like a spider. And- and now I can't find him and Mommy and Daddy are going to be mad at me and he will never come home and I lost him-waaaaaaa!" Her sentences turned into a wail, incoherent. You tried calming her down, to little avail. But really, what idiot takes candy from a stranger, even a little kid? What parents would let them go outside all alone at dark?
You asked her to describe her brother, and the kid from earlier fit with the description. "I think I have found your brother. But you have to show me where you live so I can talk to your Mommy and Daddy about it. I know you don't want to get in trouble, but if you don't help me, your brother can't come home." The girl nodded and led you quite a ways away from where you had been, to a small house. You knocked on the door.
"Jelise? Andy? Is that you guys?" A voice from inside called out.
"Yea mommy! Let me in! I have someone else here that wants to talk with you!"
Jelise's mom sounded suspicious. "Who are they?"
Jelise replied, "I think they are a hero! They said they need to talk with you about getting Andy back!" You could hear the locks turning inside, clicks and slides. Way more than a house should have. A young teenage girl came out of the house.
"What the hell do you mean, 'getting Andy back'? You were supposed to be watching him. Jelise, what did you do!" The younger girl went into the arms of the older girl.
"I'm sorry Mommy! I know you said not to talk to the heroes but Andy went away with a scary lady and I think she was a villain and we needed a hero, because they save people from villains, right?"
They invited you into their house. It turns out that Jelise called her two older teenage siblings Mommy and Daddy because her parents were never home. She didn't even seem to know what they looked like. You thought this would be a simple case of knocking on a few doors, finding the boy's parents, and going to the police station.
It might even be illegal to live the way they were living, but you did not know. You were a hero, not a policeman. "Well, could you guys come with me to the police station? We need to get Andy back home." They older siblings shared an uneasy glance.
"Sure. I'll go. Layla, Jelise stay here." The teenage boy said. He and you went back at the crime scene, where Aizawa was waiting, Hitoshi nowhere in sight. Aizawa glanced up at you.
"Who's this? I said find the kid's parents, not some other friend." You frowned.
"Long story. His parents are never home, and this guy is pretty much in charge of his family." Aizawa gave the kid a pitying look. You all went to the police station, where you meet back with Hitoshi. Andy's brother went to talk with the police officers. You hoped everything would turn out all right for that family.
