I stumble back into the apartment at 2 AM. It's not that absurdly late, to be honest, what with clubs closing usually around 5 or so. But I had to get to training tomorrow, and I couldn't be wasting my body away like this just to "rediscover" myself.
I glance at a framed selfie of myself and Jeongin, cheesing at the camera with our ice cream, before going straight to my closet and strip down to my underwear, leaving my dirty clothes in a pile to be dealt with in the morning. I go put some water into the kettle to boil so that I can proactively fight whatever hangover might hit the next morning, before going into the bathroom for a hot shower.
Finally clean and refreshed, I exit the shower with much less of a stumble, and walk to the kitchen naked to brew a cup of green tea. I lean on the countertop and check my phone as I sip.
One new email: from foxy_boy_123
I frown at the cheesy email address, and open it, fully expecting a phishing email (A/N: Scam email that tries to trick you into clicking links, in order to steal your information. Don't fall for that shit, my dear readers!!). Instead I see this:
Hello Yeona!
This is your favorite boyfriend Jeongin. Hang on, sorry. Your ONLY boyfriend and therefore your favorite boyfriend Jeongin.
I know that I have been way too negligent on my part as a boyfriend. I have been really shit to be honest. I'm so sorry about that. I know you understand (to a certain extent) that I'm busy, but I should be and can be better. Felix suggested doing weekly emails since texting can sometimes get to be too demanding, and too quick to really exchange proper stories or to catch up properly on. So, this is my email. It's very shitty, the address, but I made it very fast, and I know you like my foxy eyes so... ;)
I'm going to text you in 5 minutes to notify you that this is in fact me. So just u wait, girl.
Anyways, surprise, I'm going to come to Seoul for 2 days in 1 week. I didn't know but we have a 2.5 day vacation!! I know! I'm so fuckin stupid for not even knowing this!! I was thinking about surprising you by just showing up, but I know you like to plan things out, so this surprise notification will have to do.
I hope that you are sound asleep right now with your phone on do not disturb mode, because like I said, I will be texting you soon.
I love you a lot, and I miss you a lot. I will see you soon!
Love,
Jeongin
P.S. Attached is a selfie that I took because I know that if I miss your face, then you probably miss mine hah!
My eyes well up with tears. Stupid drunk ass, get yourself together. I wipe them away quickly, just as I see the aforementioned text come in from him: "that email was me I love u"
Frantically, I text him back, "I love u I mis u" to which he replies, "ma'am r u drunk"
"Drunk on luv"
I then head into the bedroom, full of excitement but losing a battle to exhaustion. My eyes close right as my head hits my pillow, and I drift off into a peaceful sleep.
The next morning, I reread the email and mark my calendar. I save the photo he sent me and make it my phone wallpaper. To any ordinary person, I probably just looked like a Kpop fan — but I was okay with that if it meant keeping our privacy.
I take in the new ideas about how to communicate with each other better during the tour, and nod to myself — they were smart and mature, and most of all, gave our minds and hearts a break from all of the wondering. I decided that I would start writing down a portion of the email every day, if I could, as if I were keeping a diary. This brought back memories of my pen-pal days in high school, except this time around I was exchanging letters with my idol boyfriend. Who woulda thunk.
The following week goes by quickly and slowly at the same time.
Quickly because I was endlessly busy, juggling my corporate life with my athlete life, on top of trying to plan out Jeongin's 2 days and trying to get the apartment in perfect shape for him to come home to.
Slowly because of the anticipation.
Finally it was the day that I would go to Incheon to pick him up from his flight. As long as no fans saw him board his flight in Thailand, he was probably going to be safe from the crowds. I arrive right on time, and see a couple of loitering girls at the gate. They're probably just waiting for their friends too. I worry a little, but hope for the best.
Passengers begin to stream through the exit, and suddenly, a girl screams, "Jeongin!!" I spot him in his low key, all black outfit, and my heart sinks just a little. We make frantic eye contact as he is overwhelmed by airport security as well as 20-some fans.
This wasn't the first time that Stays had gotten in between us, physically, so I did what we always did — I texted him, "I'll see you at home ok?? Get back safe," and headed to the exit.
My phone buzzed — Jeongin's ringtone.
"Ugh sorry, hon, I will be home in 40-ish! Love you. So excited."
I sighed. I wasn't that sad. Only a little bit.
Okay I was a bit more than a little sad, but it was just because I had so been looking forward to being in his arms and kissing him to welcome him. This was just the sad reality of secretly dating an idol.
I got back to the apartment and began to boil some water. I put some of the pastries I had bought from the bakery onto small plates. He would be home in about 15 minutes since I had just a little bit of a head start, so I just turned on the news, and waited.
Ding ding, beep! The passcode on the front door!
I leap up from my seat and pull the door open before he can. He grabs me and pulls me into his arms for a tight hug, swaying side to side. He pulls away and cups my face, looking deep into my eyes with his, and leans in to kiss me. I feel a weight lift off of my shoulders, off of my heart.
A/N: that's the update for the weekend :) make sure to vote and subscribe and comment and idk ! haha this photo is what I imagine Jeongin to look like when he comes home.
