Yeona's POV
"Bye Umma, Bye Appa! I'll katalk you when I land" I told my parents, as I turned to go through the airport security. My heart was pounding — this shit is actually happening. I fumbled to pull out my passport, and quickly double clicked my iPhone button to pull up my boarding pass, before getting scanned and temperature checked by the security workers. A couple more minutes and I was through to the terminal. That was pretty quick I thought to myself. I guess these are the benefits of taking a midnight flight only a couple months after the widespread release of the vaccine. Ah, the US...
The next 14 hours or so go by in a blur of semi-consciousness. The whole time, I just kept switching between my AirPods and my over ear headphones whenever things died or my ears were sore. Music of choice? A mixture of James Bay and, of course, Stray Kids, my OG Kpop group that debuted 4 years ago. I didn't listen to much Kpop other than them, so they had a special place in my heart, even if they were fading out of the industry. It seemed they were all focusing on other things, like acting or producing. Either way, I was excited, not only to be in a functioning country and highly advanced city, but also to be in the same city as my favorite boy group — Not that I would even get to meet them in person.
When I finally landed in Incheon Airport and grabbed my two big suitcases that I had checked, I got onto the bus and began my journey to my Airbnb. I'll try to find an apartment during the first two weeks here. Luckily, my start date wasn't for another month or so. I just wanted to get to know the city and to find a good apartment before starting a new job.
The next day
Finding my Airbnb and getting settled was pretty easy, and I slept well after all of the traveling I had done. Today's schedule was pretty full — four apartments to tour, and then I wanted to go to a cafe and work on some music. Music? Yeah, I know. What is a software engineer doing, playing around with music? Well, some inspiration came of course from stray kids and their ability to learn and produce on their own from the beginning. I even set up my laptop just like Chan's — velcroed down hard drives as well as Thunderbolt docks. (To be fair, this whole set up is genius and compacted). On top of that, I had the AKAI MPK mini. I don't know...I was pretty obsessed when I first discovered them. The obsession's not really the case anymore, but the hobbies I picked up and the interests I found remained.
It was March, so it was sunny but chilly. I put on some light washed, straight jeans, rolled up once at the bottoms, a thin black long sleeve turtle neck that clung to my body, a crewneck Champion sweater, and a simple maroon colored oversized flannel — really all about the layers today since I'd be going in and out of places. To top it off I put on a black cap and some dainty gold jewelry, a pair of gloves, a mask, some woolen ankle length socks, and my Air Force 1s. I know. This is probably the most basic outfit — Pinterest is screaming. But it's comfy, and it'll do for all the movement today.
I quickly loaded up my shoulder bag with my MacBook Air and my waterbottle, put on my headphones and sunnies, and headed out the door for the first apartment tour.
