Kylie's Pov
The school bell rang and I rushed to my locker. I grabbed my homework and headed for my black Mustang. I had gotten it for my 16th birthday. That was a month ago. I threw my stuff in the back, and hopped in the drivers side. I started up the engine and put it in reverse. It was Friday and I had no plans, so I decided I would drive around for a bit. I was on the Soc side of town, looking in the windows of all the shops. I'd seen all of it many times. I took a back road, not knowing where it would lead. The car began making weird noises and slowed down to a stop. "Shit," I said under my breath. I got out and looked around. Damn it. I'm in the greaser's territory. I couldn't help thinking what could happened if someone saw me and realized I was a Soc. I walked down the sidewalk and sighed in relief when I came upon a gas station. "The DX," I sighed and walked in. The door bell rang when I opened up the door. A man stood at the counter. He had dark golden hair and blue eyes. I walked up to the counter and he didn't seem to notice. "Hello?" My voice a bit shaky. He looked up and smiled at first, then I think he realized I was a Soc. "What is a girl like you doing here?" He just stared at me as I tried to find the right words. My hands were shaky and I think he noticed because he apologized. "Sorry. That came off rude, just I've never seen a Soc here. How may I help you?" He smiled and I blushed a bit. "I uh. I ran out of gas a bit down the road. I um uh. I didn't know where to go." "Why were you on this side of town anyways?" He looked into my eyes. It surprisingly eased my nervousness. "I was bored. Didn't have anywhere to go. Just decided to take a ride. I didn't even realize I wasn't on the Soc side." I looked down at the counter. "One sec. Let me go fill up a gas jug," he said walking off. "Thank you," I tried to yell after him. It only took him a bit before he was back in the store. "Show me where your car is." I nodded and we headed for my car. "Wow," I stopped and turned around. "What?" He laughed a bit. "That is one heck of a car," he looked amazed. "I got it for my 16th birthday a month ago." He didn't say anything. Just went around to the other side and began to fill the tank. When he was done he walked back around to where I was. "How much?" He set the jug down and thought for a minute. "Two bucks, she was pretty empty." I opened my car door and bent down to get my purse. I felt his eyes staring at me. I grabbed my purse and spun around. He looked away and grinned. I blushed a little and began searching through my purse. "Here," I said, handing him five bucks. "This is too much," he looked shocked. "You walked all the way down here. Keep the change." He sighed and shook his head. "You are too nice to be a Soc." That hit me a bit. "You know, it's tough all over. Not all Socs are bad." He frowned a bit. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. Just normally I don't meet the nice ones. Like you." He grinned a bit and I blushed. He had a weird effect on me. "When do you get off work?" He thought it over. "In 10 minutes. Why?" I looked at him and smiled. "I could be even nicer and let you take it for a spin." His jaw dropped. There was a sparkle in his eyes. "You'd really let me do that?" "I said I would, didn't I?" I was smiling a lot and he began grinning. "I'd be so happy to. Why don't you wait at the station until I get off?" "Ok. That sounds fine." I hopped in the car and started it up. He began walking so I pulled up to him and stopped. "What are you doing?" He turned around confused. "Walking back to work." I shook my head. "No you aren't. Get in." He grinned and ran around to the passenger side. "Just set the jug on the floor." He did and I drove off, back to the DX. When we pulled up a guy was outside with wide eyes. The boy got out of my car and I got out after him. The guy first looked at the boy. "Did you just pull up in that?" He emphasized the word that. Then he looked at me. "Wait a minute. You got a ride from a Soc?" He looked confused. "Steve, stop. This nice lady gave me a ride after I filled up her gas tank." He looked at me and with a 'thank you' look. I nodded and smiled. "I think you mean this hot broad gave me a ride," he said winking at me. I rolled my eyes. "My name is Kylie, Kylie Scott," they both turned to me with wide eyes. "You're Samuel's sister?" The boy asked. I knew this would happen. "Yeah. But I ain't anything like him. I don't like the thought of jumping innocent people. And I don't like to separate us by sides of the town. We are all people." Steve looked at me with a mean look. "We aren't innocent and we are Greasers. You are a Soc." I didn't like that sentence. A tear rolled down my cheek. "Look the Soc is crying," he said not caring what I felt. All I could think about was my best friend. My brother didn't let me hang out with him when I turned 10 because he was a greaser. The other boy ran over to me. He looked at me. "I've never met a Soc that cared about the feelings of greasers. Thank you for that." He turned and looked at Steve. "You need to shut your trap. She was being very nice. She gave me three extra dollars for a tank of gas and was gonna let me drive her car after work." Steve looked down at the ground. "I'm sorry. I've just never met a nice Soc." He looked up at me. "Well, now you have." I smiled and walked inside the shop. I sat down at a table and looked around the store. While I waited, I noticed how hot the boy I met was. He was sweaty and greasy, but I didn't mind. He was running around the store doing stuff here and there. I didn't think he noticed me staring, but he did. "You never asked for my name," he said sliding into the chair across the table from me. I completely forgot to. "Sorry. I guess I forgot. That was awful rude of me." He looked at me and giggled. That was the cutest giggle I had ever heard. "Nothing to apologize for. My name is Sodapop Curtis and that guy from earlier is Steve Randle. He is my best friend." I didn't say anything for a minute. "That's an original name. I like it," he grinned and went on. "Yeah. My parents were good at originals names I guess. My kid brother's name is Ponyboy." I laughed a bit. "Wow. That is original. I'd love to meet them and see how they came up with those names." He began to frown. "Too bad you won't be able to. They died in a car accident. Left my oldest brother, Darrel, to take car of me and Pony." His eyes began to glaze over. "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have said anything." I messed up bad. "It's fine. You should know." He smiled and began working a bit more. 20 minutes seemed like forever. "Ok. I'm done." I sighed. "Finally. That was the longest 20 minutes of my life." He laughed and I blushed.
