Chapter 5: Getting Started: Cowards, Ugly Ladies, and Demons

The waves rocked the small boat, creating a lull that seemed to call upon sleep. Lucy laid against the boat's frame, feet propped up on the seat across from her, and back leaning on the wood of the bow. Draco curled on her stomach, like a much heavier and less furry cat. His even breathing gave way to the fact that he slept, and every time she moved, he would growl in unconscious agitation. Absentmindedly, she stroked his scales like an actual cat.

She dropped the hand that pet him from his form, and placed it into the water. Her eyes closed, she relaxed, enjoying the slight breeze that played in the air. It lulled the boat onward, with no real destination in mind. She should have set a destination before she left, but nothing came to mind. Not that drifting felt all the bad or stressful. Bathing in the sun administered a peace so tranquil, she nearly followed Draco to sleep.

Lucy opened her mouth wide, yawning, and small tears gathered at the corners of her eyes. A slight tug of the water, which brushed her hand around, drew her to a more conscious awareness. Pulling up into a less languid lay, she looked around. But saw nothing. The boat did seem to be drifting one way in a current though. Some type of whirlpool most likely.

"Papa, get up." She tapped the rib area of his body, till he hissed and got up. The glare he shot at her embellished the displeased attitude he radiated. But she ignored him, and forced him onto her shoulder while she looked around the area. But this time, she used her ears, focused them to extend out to a wider area. And caught the noise of a fight.

"I hear it, brat," Draco said before she opened her mouth, he stretched his wings. From the sound of it, a serious fight raged farther on. "What do you want to do, brat?" She smelled the salt of the sea in the air, but fear infected the air of in this distance. Like a bad flu that needed a good shot of medicine. One side smelled of wine and metal, while the other smelled of gunpowder and sake.

"Let's go check it out," Lucy said, not knowing what else to do. At the very least the distraction set some type of course to follow. Picking up the oars of the boat, Lucy rowed onwards. Rocks littered the water, in small outcropping that seemed strange for the middle of the sea, but hindered Lucy's advance. Somehow she managed to find her way around them, without utilizing magic to help her. Draco laughed whenever she hit the rocks, though he jostled around with her. Something she knew he did not enjoy.

A sight of two ship, and a whirlpool, came into view. The immediate threat stemmed from the whirlpool, while small, it pulled them in and Lucy knew to abandon ship before it pulled them in completely. The only other places to go happened to be the rocks, which would get her nowhere, a cruise ship, and a pirate ship. The pirates, who strut around in a pink monstrosity of a ship, invaded the cruise ship. Which currently seemed to have quieted down. Some action occurred on the raided ship, as the pirates loaded up their stolen treasure and moved it back to the main ship. It seemed all the fight left those on board. However, a bigger boat meant food and supplies. Things Lucy decided to attain.

"Alright, let's stop in on a raid." Lucy grinned and Draco clamped down on her shoulder. She jumped into the air, angling towards the cruise ship, and landed on the edge of the ship. Ship wood creaked beneath, and the railing rattled. It didn't seem that the railing were secured properly, but the ropes from the pirate ship most likely pulled the wood from the anchoring. The change in height, from her small boat to the larger one, caused a gust of wind to throw itself at her. The hem of the jacket she wore fluttered up, then settled. Looking around, and by sound, Lucy discovered all the pirates resided on the deck. They loomed over two persons, one with orange hair, and another with pink. It felt nostalgic to see a pink haired boy. But this one reminded her of Edo-Natsu.
