Chapter 9: A Party at Baratie

When the sword fell back into its lacking sheath, a number of rounded leather pieces that attached, Mihawk sighed. More bored than when the hunt began. Even the storms of the Grand Line proved more entertainment than this. Weak prey and calm seas. The pirates came from the East Blue, and every sea around the world knew not to expect much from the East. Buggy the Clown added to the claim, despite having been Shank's nakama at one point. Krieg did as well, the man had little understanding of the real world. Of real strength.

The Pirate King, Roger, and his first-mate, Rayleigh, founded themselves as the only worthwhile pirates from the sea. One dead and the other on Sabaondy, no one remained a challenge. Perhaps the only two who could also be considered challenges were Fire Fist Ace and Rogue Noble Sabo, but even they stood no chance. But they provided a better fight than anyone showed from the sea in over twenty years, Jimbei struggled with the temperamental one, after all. One of the only members of the Shichibukai Mihawk could respect.

Turning away from the wrecked ship that floated and bobbed unceremoniously in the water, and some areas sunk into the sea. Different from the other ship, as he turned to it and looked over the deck full of chefs, took in the site of the strange restaurant under siege. Or had nearly been under siege, the attack halted the weak pirates' advance on it.

The sea restaurant, named Baratie, owned by the old pirate Zeff. Everyone on the Grand Line, or at least the older pirates, knew him or of him. Red Leg Zeff. A captain of his own crew, and chef, that lost his leg in an accident once off the Grand Line. Without his leg Zeff no longer knew cared to fight, adopted a boy, and with the remains of his treasure, opened a restaurant. The very one that the Krieg Pirates attacked. And old Zeff, a calm faced elder who stood in the middle of chaotic panic, watched over the events.

If the rush to leave the East Blue never returned, Mihawk would have liked to stop in and eat.

But the East Blue left a bitter taste in his mouth, a type of bile that grew on the back of the tongue. It turned him off even more to the stagnant waters that rarely buzzed. After all, an important person in this sea died, left Shanks and him to never see the New Age of Piracy. The light of the New Age, Monkey D. Lucy, died at a young age of seven. The sweet, yet rambunctious young girl, who longed for freedom and the sea. And they truly believed, the Red Haired Pirates and himself, soon Lucy would venture out.

Only for her two brothers to return the straw hat that symbolized her life. The adventure that awaited her, that ended far too soon. And in Lucy's head, she only ever went on one, with him. He ran his finger's over the brim of the large red hat he wore, tilted it down partially, remembered Shanks when he told him of her brothers. That they brought the news of her passing, only the hat, and nobody ever found the body. But knowing their sister's attachment to the item, it seemed only death could part her from it.

The eyes the world named him after, flickered to a blonde woman who came rushing from the ship, after a green haired man. The sight of the Wado, one of the great swords, surprised him enough not to look fully at either for a moment. Till he rose his gaze and took in the green haired swordsman, who waved a hand in the young blonde's face.

And while she entranced many of the pirates, and chefs, the girl's familiarity knocked the wind from him. So much so he pulled the brim of the hat back up fully, material released from his hand that returned to his side. Though his form remained still, and stoic as he gazed at her, he swallowed a thick ball that formed at the back of his throat. The one that nearly suffocated him due to the shock, it wore off after a few seconds, but soundly resonated through the rest of his body.
