Chapter 16: Alabasta

Lucy sighed as she walked around the desert town, her crew had all gone off to refill supplies for their journey across the desert and had left Lucy to do as she pleased for the time being. So she took in the rare sights and smells, the culture of this island was so different from anything Lucy had ever been apart of before. It was like stepping into a new world. An incredibly hot, new world, but that barely phased her, unlike Chopper who was suffering so much from the temperature change. Her poor little friend.

Heading down a new street she saw fake magicians pretend to give readings so vague that they could fit anyone, and vendors sticking their heads out into the light to offer foot at better prices than their neighbors. It was a loud city, most definitely. And all the different food was making Lucy very hungry. So she turned her attention to some men walking down the street and asked them for the location of the nearest restaurant, they gave her an answer, their eyes wandering a bit too much for Lucy's liking, and she continued on her way. Maybe her choice of clothing for this climate was a bit too skimpy.

Her red top covered only her breast with a halter neckline, and red beads hung from the hem, dancing along her waist and rib cage. She wore a white pair of shorts with her belt and whip and swords and keys, and her feet were adorned by white, high-heeled gladiators that went all the way to her knees. She had all of her little charms and rings and other jewelry gifts from her spirits though her gauntlets were off for the moment. Her head was adorned with a white cowgirl hat. It was airy and breezy, a good thing in the heat that she was currently engulfed in. Yes her body naturally cooled her down so the heat didn't bother her, and she wouldn't get sunburnt due to her tiny scales, but if she put layers on she would overheat. She had only been to a desert once, and that was one was small and mild. This was a desert island, she didn't know how to deal with this.

Walking along the streets she came to the outside of the restaurant she had been told about, though she was no longer paying attention to her stomach. Her ears picked up on a scuffle inside the quaint little restaurant, and she placed a hand on the hilt of her smaller sword across her hips in the back, and moved forward. At the doors she lifted her nose and took a deep breath and nearly choked on what she smelt. Smoke, pure smoke. Smoker was in there, she was sure of it. So, he had follower her to the Grand Line?

Lucy thought about her options, she could stick her head in and see who he was fighting, observe the area a little more if she did that, and potentially get arrested. Or she could walk away and give Smoker the slip. The second was most definitely the better option, it would protect her and her crew, and she would have no hindrance in the plans for this island. But if she walked away….if she walked away she wouldn't know the outcome. Who was he fighting? Why did the fight begin? How was Smoker able to track her? And most prominently, would Smoker be alright? He may be her enemy legally, but Lucy did like him. He was Just and Honest, and though yes, he was strong, did she risk him getting hurt?

Realizing she should make up her mind or risk looking crazy for just holding her hand up to the door, sniffing the air, and just standing there, Lucy decided to just peek. She slowly opened the door and peaked her head inside. What she saw made her freeze, the restaurant was in shambles, tables and chairs flipped, and the bar had a chunk missing from it. And Smoker was crumpled, back against one of the knocked over tables, his head bleeding. He was breathing hard, his cigars had fallen from his lips. And Sabo was standing in front of him, his pipe, the same one from when they were kids, in his hands, a steely glint to it. Neither of them had noticed her.

Smoker began to rise, his chest heaving with exertion, and he came at Sabo who sidestepped and hit Smoker in the stomach this time, sending Smoker back again. This time skidding back on his feet before falling to a knee. Sabo was walking forward this time, his pipe swinging and Lucy jumped into action. She moved in front of Smoker and brought her hands out to the sides, blocking Sabo. "Sabo-nii, stop hurting Smokey!" Lucy demanded, and Sabo just stopped. His eyes going wide as he looked at her. His pipe dropped from his hands and his jaw slackened. His eyes wide and searching desperately took in her form. Noticing how he stopped, Lucy brought a thumb to her mouth and covered it in spit and wiped away the makeup under her left eye, revealing her tell tale scar.
