We walk into the store and the sight make my legs feel weak. Walls and walls of books. I wanted to browse through all the aisles and pick out a few, but I had to look for my books of Hogwarts first. Ginny takes out her list of stuff for Hogwarts.
"Two Lockhart books," she read off, "Hogwarts: A History, Herbology for Beginners, Transfiguration I, Potions I, Astronomy I, and Charms I."
"Wow," I say, "I bet you they're heavy. I don't quite understand why we're here.. if you have older siblings, don't you just use their old book? That's what I'm doing, except for my Potion book." Ginny nods.
"I'm getting Ron's old books," she says, "all I have to get are the Lockhart books." I nod.
"Yep," I say, "bet the new teacher's a girl." Ginny laughs and nods. We head over to the shelf with all the Lockhart books on it.
"Aren't you going to introduce us to your new friend, Gin?" a boy asks, elbowing Ginny. Another boy, his twin, I presume, comes over to my side.
"It's not really any of your business, is it, Fred?" she asks, "same goes for you George." That's what there names were. The first one was Fred, who held his body up a little straighter. The second was George, who had a really dorky smile.
"Then we'll do it ourselves," George says, winking at me, "I'm George, and that's my brother Fred. We are Ginny's favorite brothers."
"Sure," I hear Ginny mumble, "keep telling yourself that." I snicker and smiles up at George.
"Goldie," I say, trying not to make eye contact, "Harry's sister."
"Ah yes," Fred says, "the not crazy one." Ginny laughs.
"We'll leave you little first years alone to do your book shopping." They say together. It kinda creeped me out. They walk away and I take off a Lockhart book from the shelf.
"We need this one," I say, running my fingers across the books and find the other one, "and this one!" I hand Ginny the two I had and grab two for myself.
"These are expensive," Ginny says, looking at the back of the book. I look at the back. Wow, five galleons was quiet expensive.
"Yeah," I agree. We walk back over to join the group.
"You girls fine your books?" Mrs. Weasley asks. Ginny and I nod. Mum and Everlyn come over to me and mum hands me my Potions book. Potions always had fascinated me.
"There you go, Goldie," she says, "go find Harry and your dad.. they should be in line to pay." I leave Ginny and go to find dad and Harry. They were in the very back of the line.
"Hey, flower," dad says, "those a little heavy?" I shake my head and hug the three books closer I my chest. He was already carrying almost all of Harry's book.
"I've got them," I say, standing next to Harry.
"So," he says, "how's Ginny?" I smile.
"She's nice," I say, "Fred and George are a little much for my liking."
"Met then have you?" dad asks, "they remind me of Sirius and I at there age."
"You and Uncle Sirius are not gingers, Dad," I say, sweetly. Dad laughs.
"You're right," he says, "we are not." We finally get to the front of the line. I could sense the clerks eying my father. I set my books on the counter, and try to hide behind my dad. Dad laughs, and holds me hand. Dad pays for Harry and my books and I take my three.
"Let me have them, flower," Dad says, "I'll take them home, so you don't have to carry them around. I give them to him, sadly.
"Don't bend them," I tell him.
"Or break the spine," dad finishes, "I know, flower, you and Lily are the same way with books." I roll my eyes.
"If I come home and my books are ruined I'll know who did it," I say, trying my hardest to be scary. Dad laughs. Harry and I go over to the group. They also had payed for their books.
"Ready?" Mum asks, "Ginny, Mrs. Weasley and you are coming with me to get your robes fitted and the boys are going to pick out you and Ginny's cauldrons and gloves for Herbology." I nod.
"Where's Evie?" I ask, as we walk over to Mrs. Weasley and Ginny.
"I took her Uncle Sirius'," Mum says, "it's kinda boring when you aren't getting anything." I nod.
"I heard you meet Fred and George," Mrs. Weasley says. I nod.
"They're special," Ginny says to me, making me giggle. Ginny and I follow Mum and Mrs. Weasley to the robe shop. We get our robes fitted and head to the wand shop.
"Ginny and I will wait out here," Mrs. Weasley says, motioning for Mum and I to go first. We walk in and I hear a ding of a bell.
"Welcome," a man says, his hair white and unkept, "Lily, is this your daughter?" Mum nods, and nudges me forward.
"I'm Ollivander," the man says, "and you are.. Marigold?" I nod.
"I've got an idea for your wand," Ollivander says, going to the back of the shop and rummaging through boxes. He comes back and hands me a light brown wand.
"Ten and a half inches," he says, "dragon heartstring, birch. Stiff, good for defense." I take it, feeling very self conscious.
"Give it a flick," Mum says. I follow her instructions, making a box fly across the room.
"No," Ollivander says, taking it from me. He goes and grabs another wand. This one was a medium shade of brown.
"Eleven inches, unicorn hair, oak, light, good for plant work." I take this one and give it a quick flick and a glass breaks. I quickly set the wand on the counter, eying it wearily. After we tried what feels like a million different wands Ollivander hands me one that makes my fingers tingle with fire.
"Eleven inches, dragon heartstring, mahogany, light and pliable, good for Transfiguration and Charms." I give it a flick and the shop goes back to has it had been. I smile down at my wand.
"Cool," I whisper. Mum pays for my wand and we go back outside.
"We'll wait for you two," Mum says, as Mrs. Weasley and Ginny go inside.
