I was sitting in front of the entire school with a hat on top of my head. I felt like I was going to hyperventilate.
"Better be," the hat says, "Hufflepuff!" I could feel the cold draining from my face as I take the hat off and head to the yellow table. There were whispers all over the hall.
"Harry's sister?"
"Hufflepuff?" I sit down and set my head on the table. Dad is going to be so disappointed. The seine changes. I was back at home.
"She's in Hufflepuff?" my dad asks mom, "how can she be in Hufflepuff?" Mom tires to calm him down.
"James," she says, "that does not matter. She is still our daughter." Tear begin to form in my eyes. Mom still loved me.
"Our family was supposed to be in Gryffindor!" Dad shouts, "Now it going to be Gryffindor and Hufflepuff!"
"And what if it is?" Mom asks, "would you have not loved me if I was not a Gryffindor?" James stops in his tracks.
"Lily," he says, "that's not what I meant. I still love Goldie.. I'm just disappointed." Those words hit me like a truck. Mom signs and walks out of the room.I wake up with tears running down my face. Midnight was up in a heartbeat and immediately on my lap.
"It's alright, Midnight," I whisper, stroking her back. She starts to purr. I sit up and start to wipe my eyes. I look over at my clock. It was six in the morning. I pick up Midnight and get out of bed. I grab some jeans and my yellow sweater. I set Midnight back on the bed while I change into my day clothes. I grab her when I am done and go to the bathroom to make sure my face was not blotchy anymore. My face was a little red, but not noticeable if you weren't looking for it.
"Goldie?" my mom asks, as I walk down the stairs, "Why are you up so early?"
"Couldn't sleep," I whisper, "I guess I'm to excited." Mom smiles at me. She pats the chair next to her.
"Not nervous?" she asks, as I sit down. I look at her.
"Everyone's nervous for Hogwarts," I say, "why wouldn't I be?" Mom laughs and gives me a hug.
"I talked with Harry last night," she says, "he said you said that you and Ginny were going to sit together on the train."
"Yeah," I reply, "we're both hoping for the same house."
"Gryffindor?" Mom chuckles, as she grabs a bowl for some cereal.
"Yeah," I mumble, "But mom, what if I don't get into Gryffindor?" Mom frowns at me as she pour some cereal for me.
"Has your father been giving you a hard time, Goldie?" she asks, "cause it doesn't matter what house you're in. Your Uncle Regulus was a Slytherin, even."
"What about Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw?" I ask, "cause I think I might be one of those."
"One of my best friends was in Ravenclaw," Mom says, "And Hufflepuff would be a great house to be in." I smile, calming down a bit.
"Thanks, mom," I say, as I start to eat my breakfast. Dad walks downstairs with his hair standing all different ways.
"That a good look for you, dad," I say, as he starts to make himself some cereal.
"Thanks, flower," he says, "Wait.. why are you up so early?" Mom smiles at me.
"She's just nervous," she replies for me, "just like Harry was." Dad chuckles.
"No need to be nervous, flower," he says, sitting next to me, "you'll be great." He raps me into a side hug.
"Thanks, dad," I mumble. He eats his cereal and gets back up to go wake Harry and Evie. I finish mine and set dad and my bowl in the sink. Harry walks down with the same look as Dad had.
"Good morning, Harry," Mom says, "ready for Hogwarts?"
"Yeah," he replies, sleepily, "I hope Goldie is too."
"I am, Harry," I say, going over to him and ruffling his hair. He hugs me.
"Good," he says. When everyone was ready we start to pack up the car. I carefully set my favorite muggle book on my seat. Dad puts my trunk in that back and we all get ready. Midnight was in her case and on my lap for the ride to the train station. When we get there Harry and Dad go and get two charts.
"I don't want you to leave, Goldie," Everlyn blurts as I am getting my trunk out of the back. She hugs me from behind. I set my trunk on the chart Dad got me before turning to hug Everlyn back.
"I'm sorry, sis," I say, "I'll write." She smiles a little.
"Everyday?" she asks.
"I'll surely try," I tell her, "Maybe not everyday, but pretty close." She smiles and jumps into my arms.
"Let's go," Dad says, "You want to get on early so you can get a good compartment." Mom laughs at him. We walk into the station and are surrounded by thousands of muggles and magicals.
"Follow me," Dad says, taking my hand and leading me through the crowd. I was already so nervous for Hogwarts, these people just seemed like another hurdle to my already stressful morning. We get to the barrier between platform nine and ten.
"Remember what to do, flower?" dad asks me. I nod, nervously gripping the cart tightly.
"It'll be alright," Harry says, patting my back. I nod, and start to run at the wall. I brace for impact, but it does not come and I see the Hogwarts's Express. Mom and Everlyn appear behind me and we start to walk to towards the train.
"The Weasleys are here," Mom says, "Harry's waiting for Ron." I had a weird feeling in my stomach, that something bad was going to happen.
"Goldie!" she hears someone shout behind her. Ginny was racing towards her with Fred and George right behind her.
"Hey, Ginny," I say, "George, Fred." They all smile and the twins offer to load my stuff into the train. I grab Midnight's carrier and let them load Ginny and my stuff.
"You girls ready?" my Mom asks, smiling at the two of us. Ginny and I both nod. Everlyn looks at me, sadly.
"I love you, Evie," I tell her, giving her a hug and a kiss on the forehead.
"Love you too, sissy," Everlyn says, "you'll write, right?" I smile and nod. I hug my mom after Everlyn let go of me.
"Love you, mom," I say, "I'll write you about the sorting and the train ride." She kiss my cheek. Dad runs over to us and picks me up in a hug.
"Bye, flower," he says, "write to us! Don't let anyone push you around. And never forget.."
"If you get an owl that says that I've punched someone, I'll get to explain first." I finish his sentence.
"Good girl," Dad says, squeezing me before setting me down, "Harry said he'd check on you mid-way through the ride to remind you to change."
"Thanks, dad," I tell him, "I love you!" I smile at them and wave again. Ginny and I head onto the train and start to look for a compartment.
"Hey, you two," George yells from a compartment behind us, "If you can't find a empty compartment or one that is not full, feel free to join ours!" Fred nods.
"We'll keep that in mind," I mumble. Ginny and I have almost made it to the end of the train when we find a compartment with just one girl in it. Ginny opens the door and smiles at the girl.
"Can we sit with you?" she asks, "or are you expecting friends?"
"I don't have any human friends," the girl says, dreamily, "At least, not yet."
