"A!"

"Alex!"

"No- no please come back! Where are you going?!"

"Alex!"

"I can't reach you!"

Silence.

Then everything came back to life.

"Alex-"

A's scream was cut off as he was ripped from Alex's view. Alex ran as fast as her legs would carry her, but the earth had other things in mind. The chunk of rock she was standing on flew up into the air, leaving her hanging on for dear life- she would surely be thrown any second.

The chunk of land raced through the sky, carrying Alex right past A. He was standing in a field. Just standing. Alex tried to call out, but her voice was taken from her. Her eyes began to blur both from tears and the threat of fainting.

Her eyelids became heavy, shutting like steel trapdoors no matter how hard she forced them open. The last thing she saw before succumbing to darkness was the rock that she lay on dumping her into a ravine. Getting rid of her like photos someone ripped up in rage. Like she was nothing. Like she deserved to be thrown out.

And she did.

She would hit the bottom any moment-

The scene faded as her back hit the earth.

Alex no longer felt like she was about to faint. She was no longer crying. No. Instead, as she stared up to where the blue sky should be, there was a ceiling fan. She wasn't laying on hard rock but instead a soft mattress.

"Alex?"

Alex didn't want to sit up. She really didn't. She knew exactly what sight was to befall her. Yet just like every other time she found her body being propelled upwards by her own force. She sat at the edge of her own bed. She knew there was someone sitting beside her. She knew who that someone was. She knew. She wasn't going to look this time.

A folded piece of notebook paper appeared in Alex's hand. It was covered in blood. She fingered the corner of it, trying to open it. Like always it was stuck. Might as well be locked with a thousand-year-old key, because Alex was never going to get it open.

Maybe this time would be different though.

Maybe if she could just look over at the person sitting next to her he would open it for her.

Alex turned her head, her dark chestnut eyes meeting a pair of speckled brown ones. A's face was smiling at her. Alex smiled back. "It's okay," A whispered. Alex smiled, tears of relief flooding her face. She laughed and threw her arms around A.

Her arms went right through him.

He was gone.

Alex woke up in a cold sweat, tears staining her face. Then she did something she almost never let herself do consciously.

She cried.
