Kata couldn't remember the last time she laughed this hard. It had been a long time, that's for sure. She would have to tell Sky about it later...
Alex, as it turned out was actually really funny when she wanted to be. Even when she didn't want to be, Kata still found herself smiling at the girl in front of her struggling through dance moves. She didn't exactly know why, but Alex was just so sweet and almost joyful. The reason Kata found Alex "almost joyful" was because whenever the girl stumbled through another spin, she would laugh at herself, making Kata join in, and from the outside, she seemed so happy, but it was like there was a lingering sadness around her and Kata didn't know why. Her laughter rarely seemed to reach her eyes.
"I really hope you're better at singing than you are dancing," Kata joked, then immediately wanted to gag herself. She wasn't trying to insult Alex, that was just her sense of humor. It was the only thing she knew, so of course, it was her sense of humor, but most people didn't get that.
"I know I suck!" Alex laughed as she tripped over her own feet again. "When I was little my mom had me in gymnastics, I'm sure you can guess how long that lasted." Alex paused looking over at Kata and laughing again. Kata laughed along with her and instantly felt herself relax a little. Alex didn't think anything of her teasing. She understood that Kata was only messing around.
"Yeah, no offense, but you really don't seem like the most coordinated person. Kind of an important skill to have if you're a gymnast."
Alex chuckled. "None taken, and believe me, I know." The two started laughing again, and it made Kata happy.
Kata looked at the bumbling dancer in front of her. She will admit that she wasn't sure about Alex at first, but she was warming up to her. Alex seemed like a really good person, and so far she hadn't gotten annoyed by her yet which was surprising. Kata had gotten very irritated with the group of people she was teaching to dance earlier in rehearsal, but not because they kept messing up. If she had gotten upset by that, she would be furious at Alex right now considering she couldn't even get through simple sequences. No, Kata had gotten frustrated with the fact that those students weren't putting their all in. They weren't giving it their everything. They weren't completely committed. Maybe the reason that got on Kata's nerves so much was because she put her all into everything in theatre. She didn't have the time to waste on not trying her best and to see other people who had all the time in the world for her passion and squandering it, made her upset. Alex, on the other hand, was working for it. She was trying her best, and though it was not a pretty sight, she was improving with each rep. It wasn't her fault that she wasn't as quick on her feet as some people, that was just the way she was built.
Kata found herself turning her head sharply when she heard the noise of someone hitting the ground. She saw Alex on her stomach, lying on the cafeteria floor, but picking herself up. Kata rushed over to help her.
"You okay?" she asked, kneeling next to Alex. Kata's eyes locked with Alex's and Alex started cracking up again, making Kata join in with her, knowing Alex was fine.
Alex looked like she would be a very graceful person, but that was clearly not the case. Her body was built like that of a dancer's Kata had noticed, so she gave her a little more dancing than just blocking because she envisioned Gabriella dancing her way through the song being light on her feet. She thought Alex would master everything quickly, but that was clearly not the case.
Alex just looked like a dancer overall in Kata's opinion. She was very delicate looking, but somehow Kata thought she could probably hold her own.
Alex wore a simple blue and white striped blouse with blue jeans and grey Toms. She wore her straight strawberry blonde hair down except for a few strands bobby pinned back so they didn't get in her face. Her hair fell to around the bottom of her ribcage, so it was long yet somehow taken care of well. Her skin was a light brown, and her eyes were a deep chestnut, making her bright hair seem very out of place on her head. Alex wore a tiny silver change with a small dolphin charm on it around her neck, but other than that Kata couldn't see any other jewelry on her. No traces of makeup either, but she looked pretty without it.
Kata was shaken out of her thoughts when Alex started trying to do a jazz square again.
"Oh no you don't," Kata laughed. "Why don't we go onto something else for now considering the fact you just face-planted?"
"Okay fine," replied Alex, smiling.
Kata walked over to where Alex was then started humming the song softly, moving where she saw fit as she did. She moved her legs around gracefully, never stepping too hard in any one place. She was as light as a feather. She started forgetting everything around her, moving through the dance. Doing something she loved.
"Okay," said Kata once she had gotten through the verse. She then proceeded to explain her idea for the blocking and Alex nodded along the whole time. After Kata was done she found Alex still looking at her, head cocked to the side slightly.
"What?" Kata laughed.
"Just...thinking," she replied, turning her head away.
"About what?" Kata laughed again, sitting on the table. Alex just shrugged. Kata looked after her as she walked to "center stage," puzzled. Alex began working through the blocking stopping every once and a while to ask Kata if she was doing it right, or to make a suggestion.
Kata clapped as Alex did a pivot that looked fairly graceful, and Alex mock bowed. Alex came to sit next to Kata on the table, and the two began talking through how they would stage the chorus of the song. Alex was so different than anyone Kata had met before. She was odd, and quiet, but not in a bad way, just in a- different way. Kata realized something right then and there. She was curious about Alex, she wanted to get to know her. She wasn't sure why, but Alex seemed like a kind person and she was fun to be around. Besides, Kata was tired of having no one she could really talk to. Maybe Alex would be the person Kata could open up to.
