Asa
I spent the rest of the weekend, thinking about Haliya, the folder and the entire bathroom incident. I was able to come to five conclusions.
Kam was in pain.
Kam's mother was dying.
Kam was homeless.
Kam was completely and irrevocably still in love with me.
And I didn't deserve him. I didn't deserve someone like him.
Monday came. It was Dynamis day. I was sitting on one of the stone benches in school as people piled into the school buses or around their cars.
Most of the students had decided to carpool to the event. Our destination was Colosseum hotel, where our school had gone all out to secure us accomodation at the luxury hotel for a whole week.
Dynamis was an annual international tour we had to go for. During the tour, we had seminars, lectures, social activities and competitions. The event was compulsory for every SS3 student, the rest of the students decided to come on their own.
I watched as Haliya leaned against her light cream Mercedes, calmly looking at her group of friends that were laughing and conversating, as poised and regal as before, it almost seemed to me like I had imagined her breakdown episode on Friday.
Kam had extracted himself from the rest of the group and was sitting on his own, head in his hands. He looked like he hadn't slept properly in days and my heart ached for him. By his sides was Osahon, standing next to him, hands shoved in his pockets, staring worriedly at Kam. And Dan, sitting next to him, raptly playing a game on his phone.
Somebody suddenly sidled up to me.
"Glad to see you could make it." Amir flashed the softest of grins at me.
I smiled warmly. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
"There's more at stake now." He whispered the last part. "We have to win this. For the school. For you. I'll make sure of it."
I gazed at Amir and questioned how possible it was that he felt the emotions of his friends, those he had adopted into his clan, to a higher, darker degree, in an almost obsessive fashion.
