[Celine]
The next day, I woke up early again to continue what I was doing with my inventions. For the whole week, we were going to try Eren on various experiments and so I thought that I wouldn't have enough time to myself before we go on the fifty-seventh expedition, my very first.
To be honest, it was the thought that churned around in my head a lot, urging me to wake up so early every day. I woke up at four in the morning to start working.
The desk I laid out my materials on was in front of the window overlooking the path towards the principal entrance of the castle, and while I was quietly attaching the magnet stripes inside the hollow of the blade (magnet stripes which just magically appeared out of nowhere), I saw somebody get out into the wide, green lawn.
I looked over closely to see who it was. It was Levi. He folded an empty, dark green rucksack and tucked it inside the saddlebag of his black horse. He then climbed up on it and they trotted away. I followed them with my gaze as far as I could, but that was about it, they vanished. It seemed like they were not just going out for a ride.
Another three hours passed, and Petra woke up with the same goal in mind, to prepare breakfast for our squad and Hanji's. It was a good thing they bought more necessities when they arrived here. Even though the ingredients were simple and common, just enough to cook simple dishes, we needed a lot to sustain fifteen people every day.
Soon, Levi was back, passing by our bedroom to bite at me again about the mess.
"Yesterday, I found dust trailing from this room down the stairs." He said coldly. "It's disgusting."
"I apologize. It will never happen again, sir." I answered calmly, making him shift at the response.
"Tch." He gave me one final glare, and walked away. I shrugged him off, trying to calm myself with the exciting thought of learning new things today.
Soon after cleaning up the "mess" in mine and Petra's room, I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen to hear Petra gasping in delight from the pantry; "Whoa! This is a lot of food!"
"Petra?" I called, entering the room and heading for where she was just across the kitchen counter.
"Cel! Come over, quick! Take a look at this!" She answered excitedly, making me smile in the same elation.
Curious, I walked over to the pantry doorway; where she stood in the middle of the iced shelves, marvelling at how much produce and meat were stocked up in the cold room.
"What in the world..." I muttered, not any more acquainted with the sight. "This is amazing! I've never seen this much food since I left Stohess!"
"Right?!" Petra beamed. "It's more than enough to last us until the day before the expedition. And look!"
She walked over to the shelves filled with cheese, beets, carrots, beef, and mutton. "These aren't ingredients you buy every day, especially not for soldiers like us!"
"You know what this means, Petra?" I asked her, my heart leaping at the various types of food.
"What?" She asked, mirroring the sparkle in my eyes.
"I can cook better meals for us, like the other night!" I told her, taking another glance at the ingredients. "And it seems to have been straight from the recipe book, these ingredients... It's like somebody read them straight off the writings and used it as a shopping list!"
"It couldn't have been anyone in the squad, they were asleep when I found them. So was Hanji's squad. Even so, why would they stock up this much? They didn't get to taste what we had the other night." Petra told me inquisitively. "This is too generous. Whoever bought this has a good paycheck."
