[Naomi]
That night, the ten of us decided that we would try out a local restaurant for dinner. It was in the secluded part near the inn, where there were private booths for different customers. We got a small, darkwood room fit for the ten of us, with five seats on each side of the long, rectangular table.
My Uncle Erwin spent the whole day checking on the scouts stationed at Calaneth with Section Commander Hanji; making sure that the soldiers were well-equipped and still training for the expedition to Maria. I wanted to convince him otherwise to spend the day with me in the Dietrich Estate, but he said there were some urgent matters that needed his complete attention that day. So I let him go.
He was so used to not celebrating his birthday at all, that the people around him tend to disregard it, with most of them not knowing about this special date. He treats it like a normal day each year. Freya just cooks something special every night on the fourteenth of October, and that's about it. He also asked me never to give him gifts because he said it was his job to give them to me.
But I wanted to do something tiny yet nice for him that day, to honor all the things he's done for the Regiment, for humanity, and for the small family we share. That was to take him in his sister and wife's favorite restaurant and just have a relaxed night with his soldiers.
"The flowers at the shops downtown were lovely, Naomi." Armin told me from the far side of the table next to Hanji, smiling warmly. "You would've loved them."
"Promise to take me there tomorrow?" I asked him.
"Of course." He replied brightly, nodding.
"How can you talk about flowers when there's a whole variety of different street food to try here?" Sasha exclaimed dreamily. "Moon cakes, grilled fish... Oh, man."
"Sorry about her," Connie shrugged sheepishly, looking at all of us. "We couldn't restrain her from indulging herself."
Jean cackled aloud. "She almost wolfed down a whole stall, too."
"Heh. We got lucky that stout man wasn't able to run." Mikasa scoffed sarcastically.
"People chased you?" I asked, half-worried, and half-laughing.
"Yes, because little miss I-can-pay-for-it-all here was short ten shillings!" Connie said, elbowing Sasha hard. I and my friends shared a hearty laugh.
"It's fun to hear tales of your daily frolicks." Levi remarked snidely, his cutting voice cold.
"Levi!" I hissed, furrowing my eyebrows at him.
Eren cleared his throat. "Excuse us, sir."
"No, you guys, this is a vacation." I assured all of them, a bright smile on my face. I slowly turned towards my boyfriend next to me and gave him a sharp stare. "We're supposed to enjoy ourselves."
"Oh, I'm enjoying listening to these adventures, alright." Levi said sternly, taking a sip of his tea.
"He's a lost cause, Naomi baby." Hanji said, smiling at me. "Get worried if he starts talking about butterflies in his stomach and romantic long walks."
"I think I'm going to vomit." Levi answered. Hanji laughed, followed by everyone else, including me. Mikasa smiled softly, as my uncle at my right rather concealed his own hilarity over the matter, probably because he was still uncomfortable over mine and Levi's relationship.
