—Third Person PoV—
Mina walked back to the apartment. Hesitant, she stopped outside the door. Even outside, she could hear Jaemin attempting to muffle his sobs.
It hurt.
Finally seeing the one she loved right by her side but she couldn't even protect him from the worst. It felt hopeless. Everything was just crumbling apart and she couldn't do anything about it.
Waiting until she couldn't hear Jaemin's sobs anymore, Mina decided to walk back in. 'Jaemin is definitely asleep by now,' she thought.
To her surprise, Jaemin sat in front of the couch unfazed by the events playing on the TV.
"You're back." Jaemin announced.
Mina nodded. "Yeah." Her hair was still soaking from the rain but she cared less in this moment.
"How was your walk?" He asked.
The female stood still and thought about it. 'How was it?'
It took a moment to respond before she finally said, "Refreshing."
Jaemin glanced over to her, surprised by her calm response. But he quickly returned his gaze back to the TV screen. "I see." He said.
The two froze in their places, neither wanting to be the first one to speak.
"I'll—"
"I'm—"
The couple met each other's gaze before awkwardly looking away.
"You go first." Jaemin said.
"I'll go take a shower and head to bed. I'll see you tomorrow." Mina said, taking the bait and leaving first.
Jaemin only nodded. Once Mina had shut the bathroom door, he punched the ground in frustration. Cradling his head in his hands once more, he blamed himself for not taking the initiative to apologize for the earlier events.
'Shit. I'm only going to drag out this situation more. Goddamnit Jaemin. Why couldn't you just say something? Why do you always have to be the goddamn coward? Why couldn't you just be better?'
"Don't blame yourself."
Jaemin looked up in surprise.
"Don't blame yourself for what happened earlier." Mina said, half-undressed. "It's not your fault for any of this. I shouldn't have called you a selfless person. Or at least implied that. I'm sorry for letting out all my stress in one blow. I'm sorry for dragging this all out. I'll find a way. I'll get Yeseul back and I'll finally put an end to this. You don't have to be dragged into any of this—"
"HEY!"
Mina stumbled back a little, surprised by Jaemin's sudden shout.
"You're not doing this on your own. I'm not letting you do any of this on your own. I'm involved already, so I'm not backing out. I'm not going to be a coward and let some stupid shit get in the way of protecting you and my friends. I'm going to do this with you, Lee Mina, whether you want my help or not." Jaemin said, fiercely.
At first, Mina didn't know how to react. Shocked? No, that wasn't enough to describe it. Happy? Maybe, she wasn't sure. Relieved? Yes. Relieved.
In a split second, she ran over to Jaemin and embraced him. Jaemin fall back a few steps before regaining his composure and returning the hug.
"I'm sorry for not being the bigger person." He whispered.
"That's okay. I don't need you to be the bigger person. I just need you to be here." Mina replied.
