April 16thMai stood in front of the large mirror mounted on the bathroom wall and tugged on the bottom of her black skirt. She pulled her socks up higher on her thighs and brushed her auburn hair again, trying to look as presentable as possible for her first day at Karasuno High School. The nerves may not have affected her so strongly if it had been the first day for the entire student body, but moving to a brand-new school half-way into the semester was bound to make anybody anxious.
The move to Miyagi prefecture was not Mai's choice, nor was it very planned out. But all involved adults agreed to sign the papers and hand legal guardianship to her Aunt Ren, who happened to live 6 hours away from her home, leaving Mai with no choice but to suck it up and move on.

The lovely lady behind the desk grinned widely when she spotted the teenager, her bright red lips contrasting against her pale skin and dark hair. The jar of pens stored in the corner of the wobbly desk clinked every time she lifted a finger. With a sweet tone and an extra lovely smile, she asked the girl standing a few inches away from her desk. "Name, please?"
"Matsuda Mai," said the teenager, grateful that she shared her first encounter with such a pleasant lady.
"Ah, a new student, eh? You're going to love Karasuno." The lady whose nametag read Takeuchi grinned, typing quickly into the desktop keyboard. "Any clubs? We have swim, basketball, soccer, volleyball-"
