Fever

I closed my eyes briefly, a silent prayer directed towards the bright stars above. "Hope you are seeing me from there..." I whispered before gathering our belongings and heading downstairs.

The next morning greeted me with bright sunlight streaming through the windows, but as I emerged from beneath my blanket, I was met with an unexpected chill in the air. A quick check of my mobile confirmed my suspicions – the temperature had dropped to -3℃ overnight, a significant decrease of 5 degrees. I hurriedly took a warm shower and dressed in layers before preparing for the day ahead. Jungkook had already left for the office.

Upon arriving at work, I was greeted by my colleague Clair, a charming soul with a petite frame. Her doe-like eyes and thin lips gave her an endearing appearance.

"Hi, Y/n!" she greeted me with a sweet smile, to which I responded in kind.

"So, are you two dating yet?" she whispered mischievously into my ear.

"Dating??!!! Whom?" I asked, genuinely puzzled.

"Pabo! I'm talking about the guy who lives with you in your apartment!" she replied, her excitement palpable.

Her mention of Jungkook caught me off guard, and I felt a surge of disbelief. "Huh! He's just a friend, nothing else. We're not dating!"

"Geez, you're so boring. I saw him on Instagram. He's soooo handsome! I would have already married him if I were you!" she gushed, her fangirling in full swing.

"Is he really that good-looking?" I teased, intrigued by her enthusiasm.

"He's THAT good-looking! I guess you're just nervous because you've never dated anyone. Should I help you with your patch-up?" she offered eagerly.

Clair didn't know about Taehyung, and no one in my office knew about him either. Bringing up his name would only lead to more questions, and dwelling on those memories would only reopen old wounds. He was not coming back, and revisiting those events would only cause me more pain. It was best to keep those memories buried deep within my heart.

I couldn't help but give her a faint smile, appreciating her well-intentioned gesture. "Thank you, but I think I'm fine. I also have no interest in dating anyone."

She pouted in response, but I gently steered the conversation away from the topic, leading us inside the building. "Shall we go in? We're getting late for the meeting," I suggested, eager to shift the focus back to work.

Time skip

I arrived home before Jungkook, quickly changing into warm and comfortable clothes to combat the cold. Despite the heater being on, the chill still lingered in the air. As I boiled some tea leaves, I heard the familiar sound of the door opening, signaling Jungkook's arrival. I made my way to greet him, only to find him slumped on the couch, his head bowed low and his breathing labored.

"Kook, Gwenchanna??" I inquired, concerned by his appearance.

He nodded weakly. "Just a minor headache," he murmured, his voice weighed down by exhaustion. He sniffled, indicating that he might be coming down with a cold.

Placing my hand on his forehead, I noticed the abnormal warmth radiating from his skin. "You have a fever," I stated matter-of-factly.

"I'm okay—"

"No, you're not! And where is your blazer??" I interrupted, my tone reflecting my frustration.

"Actually, it..." he hesitated before continuing.

"Don't tell me you forgot it at home? Jungkook, it's freezing outside! How could you be so careless??" My concern turned into exasperation.

"I gave it to my colleague. A glass of water spilled on her dress, and she was cold."
