Has the evening went on Mitch was playing a game with Dylan. Marie let the two of them play the game while she got on with washing and changing Mitch's bed sheets. She put on his favourite covers. And took the dirty ones into the kitchen.
"Have you changed my bed covers mum?" Mitch asked.
"I have yes". Marie said putting the bedding into the washing machine. She made some drinks. She was in fact trying to keep herself away from Dylan as must has possible. So by doing things was ideal. But Dylan could sense this. And went into the kitchen while she was wiping down the sides and putting the already washed clothes into the dryer.
"You can join in with me and Mitch you know?" Dylan said from the kitchen door way.
"I know. But he want's to spend time with you. Remember you start filming soon so he won't see you plus he will be in school as well". Marie said. Again doing her best not to make eye contact with Dylan.
"I'm sure he would want you too". Dylan said.
"Daddy come and see my bedroom". Mitch said pulling on his hand. Dylan followed him into his room. Mitch showed him a lot of his stuff. His son was a fan of baseball. Which did surprise him. Even though he already knew this. It still surprised him.
Marie stood in the kitchen as she made them a drink. Time was getting on. And it was soon dinner time.
Marie decided to cook. Again to keep herself away from Dylan. The more time she seemed to spend with him the more she started to have them feelings again for him.
"Guys dinner". Marie said. Putting the plates down on the table. Dylan noticed she had made him some and smiled at her. Marie smiled back her heart jumping. Mitch soon sat down eating his dinner. Marie sat opposite him. As Dylan sat next to him.
"Slow down". Marie said.
"Sorry mummy, I'm hungry". Mitch said. Making her laugh. As she carried on eating. Dylan watching her and then Mitch. They sat quietly eating.
Once they had all finished. Marie picked up the plates and went into the kitchen. Leaving Mitch and Dylan in the Living room.
"Daddy". Mitch said.
"Yes son". Dylan said. Still not getting to here the words. 'Daddy'. He never thought in a million years he would be a father. But here he was 5 years later with his son. He only wished he had been with them both from the start. And not fucked things up. But he did. But he was also glad that Marie was allowing him time with Mitch.
"Are you staying tonight. I'm sure mummy will be ok with it". Mitch said. Dylan looked around and into the kitchen. Marie hadn't heard what Mitch said.
"I don't know son". Dylan said.
"MUMMY". Mitch shouted making Marie turn around quickly and walk into the living.
"Mitch what's wrong why did you shout like that". Marie said.
"I'm ok mum. But mum can daddy stay here again tonight. It is getting late". Mitch said.
Marie laughed a bit.
"Mitch it's 5:30pm. It's not late. Plus I'm sure daddy is needed back in London". Marie said. Not knowing for sure. She did a little bit want Dylan to stay. But she didn't want Mitch getting too used to it. As it might make him sad when Dylan isn't able to be there because of filming.
"I am yes. But not until Tuesday". Dylan said.
"Oh ok. Well then it's fine if Mitch wants you to stay". Marie said smiling at Mitch.
"YES. See I told you mummy would be ok with it". Mitch said. Getting down from the table and dragging his dad back into his bedroom. To play a game they started before dinner.
Marie stood loading the dishwasher. Looking out of the window. She was away in her own world. Just thinking about things. She closed the dishwasher door and looked again out of the window. She didn't notice Dylan standing in the door way. She turned around and jumped.
"Jesus Dylan you could have let me know you was stood there". Marie said putting her hand on her chest as her heart was beating so fast.
"I did. I said your name twice. I guess you was in a world of your own". Dylan said looking at her.
"Look about you staying it's ok. Just please don't say you can stay when you can't ok. Mitch needs to know that your not going to be here every day. And besides I thought you had things needed to be done in London?" Marie said.
"I do but not until Tuesday. And as for me not being around all the time. I know and I will make sure I am when I'm not working". Dylan said.
"Ok. Make sure Mitch understands. Look he starts school week after next. As you know he wants you to be there on his first day. Can you sort something out so you are able to do that. Has I don't want him feeling his first days isn't important to you". Marie said walking out of the kitchen and into the living room.
She wiped the table down quickly. While Dylan just stood there watching her. She looked up and saw him just looking at her. Her heart started to beat faster. But she carried on with what she was doing.
"Yes I will. I've sent a text to my manager telling her I will be here that day because it's our son's first day at school". Dylan said.
"Ok what did she say?" Marie said.
"Well she's still getting used to the fact that we have a son together. But she said she will move things around. I told her there is no choice. Here look". Dylan said. Handing Marie his phone. And nodded to say it was fine for her to read the messages so she did. She read the messages to his manager. Dylan making it clear to her that he will not be in London that day. As his child was starting school. She saw a few sarky comments from his manager to him but she also read the replies and Dylan not putting up with it.
"Ok that's fine. At least she's getting the message. The thing is what are we going to do when people start working out with have a child together. Someone is bound to notice who you are. And after the park early I am surprised nothing has been put on social media. I don't know if that person knew you or not. Yes it's been along time. But I don't know". Marie said.
"Look. I'm the one who fucked up years ago. I know that. And you have every right to keep the fact that I'm Mitch's father to yourself. Or only a few people know. When the time comes as I know it will, then we will address it". Dylan said.
Making Marie look right at him. He was right he had fucked up. But should she keep that over him. It's been over 5 years now. Yes the hurt was still there. But Marie feeling a bit jealous earlier that day. Maybe she was starting to feel for him again. But right not wasn't the right time for that. They both needed to focus on Mitch and making sure he had a relationship with his dad.
"So what was you and Mitch doing?" Marie said.
"A game. I didn't know he was a baseball fan?" Dylan asked.
"Oh yes. I'm guessing he takes after you. We play it sometimes. Kids game of course. He's really good at it. A lot better than me". Marie said.
Laughing to herself. She remembered the first time she played it. She hit the ball which was good. But the ball went right throw a window. Breaking the glass. Of course she never played again. Dylan at the time couldn't stop laughing. He looked her. Like they both knew they was thinking of that day. Marie just smiled at him and walked and sat down.
"There you are daddy". Mitch said coming into the living room.
"Mitch 30 minutes. Then need to get you showered". Marie said.
"Ok mummy. Can I wear my funny PJs?" Mitch said.
"Yes as long as there clean". Marie said. As Mitch went off and got his PJs ready.
"Maybe can help shower him. Well he likes to do that himself. Just need to sit and make sure he does. He's normally pretty good". Marie said.
Dylan nodded and went back to his son.
